10 Amazing Benefits of Juicing Raw Fruits and Vegetables

juice-benefits670

Have you ever found yourself feeling fatigued, bloated or just unable to control your appetite? Or maybe you’ve been struggling with health issues, chronic or mysterious, that just would not resolve? You know what I have been there!
Some years ago, I was diagnosed with carpel tunnel syndrome. My wrist was very painful, I had numbness which kept me up at night. I had to wear a wrist splint, especially at night. After receiving my second steroid shot in the wrist, I decided that I would not return to have the third. I heard how juicing fruits and vegetables flood the body with nutrients that empowers your body to heal and I decided to give it a try.Another time juicing came to my rescue was when I needed to loose weight. My ideal weight is 140 lbs, but sometimes I have found the needle on the scale brushing over my ideal. So I put myself on a juicing program to see what would happen.

The results?

  1. I could think more clearly
  2. I lost a lot of weight – about a pound a day
  3. I found myself full of energy
  4. I was more consistently positive and cheerful, no matter what come my way
  5. I would wake up feeling sharp and well rested, even if I had less sleep
  6. The juices flooded my body with so much nutrients, I rarely felt hungry
  7. I also noticed a heightened sense of taste and smell
  8. My skin started to glow, my hair and nails grew faster. People started to comment on how much younger I looked for my age
  9. My immune function was at its peak, and I didn’t catch a single cold or get sick
  10. The discipline of juicing gave me greater control over my appetite and boosted my will power in general.

So do you think it’s worth a try? Here is a recipe to start you out. If you want more, check back as I’ll be posting more in the next few weeks.

Fat Burner Juice

carrot-juice470

Ingredients:

  • 6 carrots
  • handful of kale or other green leafy vegetables
  • 1 lemon

Directions:

Wash the above ingredients thoroughly and cut into small pieces that can be fitted into your juicer. Put the leaves in first, the carrots and lemon will help to push the leaves through the juicer. Drink your juice right away for maximum potency or store into a glass jar with an airtight lid to conserve its nutrients for up to 24 hours.

Now that you are juicing so many fruits and vegetables, you may want to know the best way to clean them. Organically grown produce is always the best, but organic or not (as your budget allows) this is a fruit and vegetable wash to take away all the nasties from your juice.

Michelle’s Fruit and Vegetable Wash

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup vinegar
  • 1 Tbsp salt
  • 1 Tbsp lemon (optional)

Direction:

Fill a clean sink or basin with water. Add vinegar and salt. Soak fruits and vegetables for 30 minutes then rinse.

  1. I agree with the juicing, especially carrot juice. we got into juicing (carrot, aloe vera, celery)during our stay at Uchee Pines and it is something that we still do. The energy, clarity is unbelievable! I would love for you to share different recipe juicing combinations. Thanks Michelle

  2. Michelle,

Thank you for sharing. I’ve always heard that carrot juice was high sugar… could elevate blood sugar. Do you find that to be true?

    Paul

  3. Carrot juice does contain high levels of natural sugar, actually . It is low on the Glycemix Index. For those who are diabetics, hypertensives or have sugar sensitivity issues they may want to dilute carrot juice with water; 4 oz juice with 4 oz water or drink the juice with an oil containing omega fatty acids such as flax seed oil.

  4. How is your carpal tunnel? My father suffers from it and I would love more info to show him. Poor dad, he is always in pain.

  5. Gabby I don’t have any symptoms whatsoever of carpel tunnel syndrome. I do a lot of typing and cooking and I have had no problems for over 10 years now. Best Regards to your dad, I definitely understand his pain.

  6. this is very interesting – heard about this from others – how often do you drink it … carrots and celery – what kind of juicer should I get? any other advice for someone just starting out? thanks :))

  7. Thank you, I’m happy you find the content interesting. Almost any fruits and vegetables that is eaten raw can be juiced. Exceptions are fruits and vegetables with low water content such as avocado and bananas. You can drink about 8 to 16 ounces along with your meals. If you are on a juice only regimen you can drink as much as you want, but more of the vegetable juices are better, you will also need to drink the juices diluted but if you don’t like the taste of diluted juices, just drink a glass of water before or after you drink juice. To start a juice diet only its best to eat only raw fruits and vegetables only for the first 3 days, then juice for approximately 3 days then to break the fast by eating fruits and vegetables with a high water content such as grapes and tomatoes. Never break a liquid diet by eating cooked grains and legumes. I hope this helps, if you have further questions, please feel free to ask.

  8. you said you lost about a pound a day? thats amazing!how many glasses of that fat burner juice do you consume in a day?

  9. Pia, I actually juice a 5 1b bag of carrot juice along with vegetable juices. Usually I buy a 50 lb bag of carrot from Whole Foods Market at discount price, then I would juice a 5 lb bag a day along with other vegetables (cucumber, kale, red bell pepper, spinach, dandelion, beet, cabbage) and optional green apple. I like to add ginger for taste, I also drink lots of water in between and a vegetable broth made with lots of vegetables and seasoned with lots of garlic, onion and cayenne pepper

  10. When you juice aloe do you have to open the skin and strip the gel out or can you juice the whole stalk?

  11. Pat I only use the gel of the aloe plant and I would recommend the use of aloe with caution because of its laxative effect. Do not use aloe vera if you have bowel problems such as bowel obstruction or inflammatory bowel disease.

  12. Wow I am so happy that I read this and along with reading Ministries of health I am going to be in good health please keep posting these wonderful recipes.

  13. Can’t wait to try juicing! Question? Is this in replacement of a meal? Do u juice once a day or is this now your meals all day?? I want to do this right, thanks!

  14. Jennabug13

I can’t wait to start juicing! Question? Is this in replacement of a meal? Do u only juice all day, no meals? I want to do this right. Thanks!

  15. ” I like to add ginger for taste, I also drink… a vegetable broth made with lots of vegetables and seasoned with lots of garlic, onion and cayenne pepper”

    You’re my dream girl. <3

I have been juicing for a couple months and I love the spice from a ridiculous hunk of ginger.

  16. Jennabug, Juicing may replace one meal or all of your meals. If you would like to radically improve your health, loose weight, tune up your body and/or cleanse drinking juices can help. A regime would be 1 quart warm lemon water upon waking, exercise, juice either fruit or vegetable juice then alternate hourly with water/non-caffeinated herbal teas, may end the day with vegetable broth. Please consult physician or healthcare practitioner before starting this regime.

  17. Thank you for sharing! I suffer from Lupus and Extreme joint pain in both of my hands. How many meals do I replace? I don’t see my doctor anymore because we don’t have healthcare and I’ve been laid off since May (which the STRESS doesn’t help!) it makes the Lupus bad and burn wholes in my skin. I’ve been told by several people to juice but everything I find on the Internet is so confusing…until I found your website! Could you offer your advice as I’m suffering so bad. Thank you again you’re a blessing!

    Xoxo,

  18. My smoothies consist of greens and berries and I make them in a small personal size blender. It is quick, convenient and you have nothing left over and make it fresh for breakfast. First I add the greens and at least 2 or shredded carrots, and use KEFIR in my smoothie. I buzz that for a while before adding the partially thawed berries. IF you like banana, add just a half, because banana seems to over power the flavor, and you can add pineapple juice for sweetness too. Then I add organic berries, what ever I have in the freezer, add wheat germ, chia seeds, and top with chopped almonds. Absolutely fabulous start for the day! The smoothie is much more nutritious than any cereal on the market. I gave up Kashi cereal a long time ago. This drink covers all bases, greens, reds, orange, yellow……in the fruit and veggie spectrum. The wheat germ, it is a powerhouse of Thiamine, Magnesium, Vitamin E, Folic Acid and Iron and Protein. This is a much forgotten grain that people should be adding to their daily regimen. I use Hodgson Mill’s and it is verified NON-GMO!

  19. I have been making an ALIVE soy protein shake every morning with Greek yogurt and berries for years. I am now beginning to juice each am, and wondering if I can add my protein powder to my juice? Thanks

  20. dande_lionne

Michelle, you mentioned adding oil, for all others, adding oil allows you to better digest not only the water soluble, but also the fat-soluble components (beta-carotenes and more) of the juice. Besides flax seed oil (best from freshly ground flax seed – just use a blender, pulverize), I like walnut oil (> 50% poly fats, omega 3 : 6 ration about 1: 3.5. perfect). Without the oil, you are missing out on some of the benefits of the juice.
While doing a complete juice fast, with only vege juice, water, teas, I have found that taking a tsp of fiber supplement in the morning, I could keep my digestive system moving (slowly, but nevertheless) the entire 9 days, so the waste did not end up staying in my body. Re-adding some of the fiber removed in juicing and/or the fiber from the ground flax seed, may have the same effect.
New to This, you mention soy protein – in this article Dr. Mercola makes a cogent referenced argument against its use. http://www.mercola.com/article/soy/avoid_soy.htm

  21. I am such a beginner. I have been thinking about juicing for a while now and cannot wait to start. Are there any suggestions for an affordable juicer that works well? I am on a budget….
    Thanks

  22. I’ve been very interested in juicing and enjoying its Benifits, can someone please tell me what’s a good jucier to purchase and where? Thank you

  23. Skeeter, I personally have a Champion juicer which is faithful. I also have a Breville juicer, I like it because I can fit a whole apple in the feeder tube or 5 carrots at once. The Greenstar is good for juicing greens.

  24. My wife and I wanted to start juicing so I had to do a bit of research on them and found the Omega VRT350 well regarded by many. I got it at BB&B using one of the 15% coupons so if we didn’t like it we could take it back without paying shipping. After using it twice a day for a week I am happy to say we will not be taking it back, it is a keeper. We are juicing our way through the rest of our kale, chard, mint, and parsley in the garden before the hard freeze set in and wipes them out.

  27. How can I convince my mother (76, but looks 55, in grear health just needs a boost to her routine) start juicing consistently?

  28. A customer recently recommend this site: qigong.com and conqueringanydisease.com and I started adding green smoothies in my diet. Got the books and have read it through…disease can be reversed even if your doctor say you only left 3 months. My mom is one example, she had terminal stage 4 ovarian cancer 8 years ago..but she is very healthy now..She didnt forget that juicing saved her life…just like to share with all..go get a good juicer or a blender!

  29. Great post and I particularly liked the wash tip at the end….I’ve always wondered on the best way to wash fruit and veg and have done it so many different ways but I’m using your method now. I juice most fruit and veg albeit I’m still a newbie…..one thing I’m not so keen on though is grapefruit. Very sour juice that. Any recommendations on what to use to neutralise the sourness??

  30. Hello. I read that you juice about a 5lb bag of carrots a day. Is this healthy to consume? I read somewhere that too many carrots at once can be toxic. Anything over 8oz. a day would not be absorbed. Would you comment on that. I have been gradually approaching juicing. I love carrot juice with ginger & celery. I found when I have that in the morning, I don’t crave coffee with cream & suguar…YaaaH!

  31. Hello,
Happy new year everyone! I find this place awesome really. I am suffering from pressure urticaria and decided to try juicing, hoping it would help, than taking anti histamine tablets, and I can really say, it is working well.. I am jucing for a month now, less itchiness, less hives. For almost 3 months I was only eating bok choi because I was avoiding vegies and fruits with high level of histamine, but now, I can juice them and it’s great!
I just love juicing.. here’s mine most of the time.
Celery, apple, carrot, and a pinch of turmeric powder.

But lately Ive tried pineapple, apple, celery, ginger, carrot.. and moringa leave.
I do it every morning only..

moringa: boil the leaves and cool it, what I do is, I form it like a small balls. It is so yummyy!!!

    Happy juicing everyone!

  32. A Better ME

I started juicing today and I use a blender however I have a very sensitive pallet, so I have to sift the excess kale greens or skin or peels. But I sift my juice its amazing!!! I found something I am happy about. I am losing weight as well, way before the juicing and I pray that juicing only boosts my weight loss. I will keep an update on my success. I have an 18 month old as well and he enjoyed the fresh juice. I wouldn’t give the juice to him everyday, but I will like to boosts his vitamin & mineral intake. I turned vegetarian on the 1st of Jan and that is going excellent as well. I have so much energy becoming a vegetarian.

  33. Other benefits of celery is weight loss, lowers blood pressure, high in Vitamin C which promotes immunity, has anti-inflammatory benefits which helps with other auto-immune diseases, lowers cholesterol, contains coumarin which prevents cancer, a diuretic.

  35. Hello drinking fresh carrot juice all day long is definitely not toxic. However, If you take too much Vitamin A supplements you can develop toxicity. Carrot juice contains betacarotene, which the body converts to Vitamin A. Happy Juicing
You make develop an orange tone to your skin, don’t be alarmed your body is not toxic.

  36. Although I agree with you. It depends on the individual’s location, finance and availability.Make the most of your situation. One should not decide to refrain from juicing because they don’t have organic. If it means buying conventional and washing properly; in order to get the nourishment to heal, to repair damaged tissue, to be relieved of pain and chronic diseases. Although organic is the best way, not everyone has the opportunity to buy organic.

  37. I’m so sorry to hear of your diagnosis. The body is made to repair and putting in the right fuel will aid with its healing and restoration. Please consult a medical professional knowledgeable in Juicing and use of wholistic health, who will be able to further diagnose, monitor and treat your condition.

  38. Do not put yourself at risk for mouth cancer by consuming large amounts of alcohol. Drinking large quantities of alcoholic beverages is associated with increased risk for mouth cancer. Thanks.

  39. Glad – have you watched “fat, sick, and nearly dead”? It’s a fab documentary about two guys with urticaria who use juicing to cure themselves and loose a ton of weight. It’s what got me into juicing and it’s truly inspirational. You can google “reboot with joe” to find the forum of the guy who made the documentary…. Including a bunch of great juice recipes :)

  40. Michelle,

I’m so glad I came across your blog. I also have carpal tunnel and when I read this post, it made me realize that I haven’t had any symptoms since I started juicing 3 weeks ago – WOO!! I’ve also lost 15lbs in 24 days.. I am still eating one meal a day but it is a plant-based meal…no meat or dairy products. Off to the farmers market now :)

  41. Hi, Michelle I’m so happu I came across this website starting to juice!! What other Recipes for weightloss do you have?

  42. Hi,i want to begin juicing and was wondering if you have a recipe to improve my overall health and to help with anxiety…

  43. I was diagnosed as borderline hypertensive some months ago and wanted to find a natural alternative to the dreaded (and toxic!) medication. I bought a number of juicers before and TRIED to juice on a regular basis, but got fed up with the fruit/veg prep time and the *clean-up* process. A good friend recommended Vitamix but it was WAAY out of my budget so I did some research and came across Magimix, who do a similar machine at a fraction of the price. The only *prep* I have to do is peel citrus fruit (by the way, thanks so much for posting the Fruit and Vegetable Wash!) My blood pressure reading is better and my overall health improved to the point where, after trying almost every diet known to man (and woman!) I lost close to 20lbs and no longer lost my breath climbing a flight of stairs. I fell off the wagon over the holidays but the combination of Lent and the horsemeat scandal (here in the UK) put me straight back on! Juicing is about the best thing I’ve ever done for me and my health and I’m sure those you who have been doing it for far longer than I will agree!

  44. Straightupmanly

Hello everyone, I have been reading everyone’s comments and am learning so much thank you all. One thing I have not learned and/or still is a question in my mind is what is the difference or the benefit to actual juicing to puréeing the vegetables and eating them I’m a little bit confused. Wouldn’t a lot of the benefits be in the pulp and fiber of the actual vegetable?
    Don

  45. To *Straightupmanly* and *New to this*: pureeing food involves cooking, which can in itself destroy many of the nutrients found in food. Juicing food in its natural state ensures that you get all of the good stuff!

  46. Straightupmanly

I didn’t even know that meant cooking it, I just meant shoving a bunch of vegetables in a blender and then drinking it. Why juice? Why loose the fiber and pulp?

  47. I would love to know how often to juice and the amounts.did u juice once a day, twice a day, and how much on an average each time.i just bought a juicer.im a newby.i have never juiced anything before.help

  48. I don’t have a juicer. Can I use a blender and still benefit? I have carpal tunnel symtoms. Open to natural remedies/ recipes…

  49. My mom recovered from terminal ovarian cancer by taking juices..it was something she did right 8 years ago..doctors said she likely will not make it..now she’s drink mostly fruit/vegetable smoothies..there are tons of info online I’m sure you are now on the right track to a healthier life.

  51. Thank you for the motivation Michelle. My wife and I have been on a juice fast for 4 days. Today is really the first day I am not consumed by depression and intense food cravings that could only be compared to a junkie coming off of drugs. Last night was the best night sleep I can remember. I popped out of the rack at 6am like I had overslept. We did a fast last year for ten days and I went right back to pizza beer and junk. This time I think I will take my time with it and try for a month or maybe two. My wife says she would like to veggie feast after a week but I think I would really benefit from a sustained juicing fast.

  52. my best friend has a IC. disease he cannot have a spicy food or any food with spicey. can juicing will help her or juicing with apples carot and celery. but he cannot have apple on his diet but by juicing this it will be ok .

  53. Thanks so much to all of you out there sharing your juicing experiences. Iam so happy, full of energy, less joint pain, sleeping better and my friends keep telling me that lam gljuice
My list of favorite fruits and veggies to juice:
Kale.spinach, celery, ginger, parsley, carrots and apple to add a little sweetness to it.
On the other hand, l also juice just grapefruit, oranges carrots, and apples (a little bit of ginger).
    Enjoy everyone! !!!!

  54. Started juicing and just wanted to say “thank you “to all of you out there sharing
your juicing experiences. My life has changed since I started juicing.

  55. Well, I have been juicing for a week and never felt as tired before in my life.
    If there’s a benefit I haven’t seen anything yet.

  56. amomn2kids

I have noticed that no one has mentioned juicing tomatoes. Since I am new to this, it may be a stupid question. But is there a reason behind not juicing with tomatoes?

  57. Hi, I have started juicing few months ago, however only couple times a week, as the clean up is a pain and i get so easily fed up with it. Can I make more juice in one go and bottle it, would it keep in a fridge for a day or two or would it loose all the goodness?

  58. Thankyou Michelle for the site. Thankyou users for sharing your experiences with us all. i watched the film fat sick and nearly dead i was impressed with the good that Joe did and his mate in America. i bought a hand opperated juicer made out of stainless steel from Vitality 4 Life in Queensland it cost two hundred and fifteen dollars. i sort of don’t trust electrical gadgets and boiling prawns when it comes down to survival.i was suprised at how easy it was to use on hard vegetables and fruit. i have always had a place to grow vegetables but i always had too much produce for myself. now i need more. i buy seeds from rangeview seeds in Tasmania. i believe that we were all born in God’s image. I beleive that we can all cure ouselves of any sickness. i believe that juicing is a way to eat some healthy food.i’ve had my juicer for three days now and i feel full of energy. might need to see what Michelle writes for recipes, knowledge and wisdom. thanks .

  59. Mommy to be

I am about 72 lb. over weight, but also pregnant I would like to know if the juicing is safe during pregnancy..

  61. Hello!
I was so excited when I read Joni had asked about Lupus and joint problem because I thought I would see some advice from you but you contacted her via email so no advice I can use there hehehe so I was wondering if theres any juice you recommend? Thank you so much.

  62. I just purchased the Breville Juice Fountain, and am so excited to get started. This is an awesome blog. Thanks for the great information.

  63. You can wash and portion out your fruits and veggies and keep them in containers to save preparation time. Juice can be stored in glass jars with tight fitting lids for two days. Yes you loose some of the nourishment but not all. Do your best to keep up the juicing. All the best…

  64. Juicienewbee

I watched the movie, Fat, Sick and nearly Dead (free on Youtube at the time) and it got me interested in juicing. I found the benefits to be amazing. I juice every morning and sometimes in the afternoon.

I juice 2 red apples and 2-3 carrots sticks in the morning and I find it to be a very invigorating experience.

I recommend watching the movie, every eye opening and inspirational.

  65. Hi! I’ve read that you take away the fiber when juicing, so is it ok to add fiber supplement like Metamucil to my drink? Thanks.

  66. due to bowel disease I can’t eat fruit and veg so I was wondering if juicing them might be a better idea so to take all the fibre out of the fruit and veg, I bought myself a Philips Juicer and a load of fruit and veg. My favourite at the moment is carrot, beetroot, celery, parsley and apple. Going to try parsnips and cabbage with apples and carrots. I don’t have a juice every day, I do it every other day so far so good my gut is reacting okay with it.

  67. I have lupus and am really struggling – i came across your site and will be having juices to try and detox. Please send me the recipes to assist Lupus patients. Much appreciated.

  69. Love this blog, just started juicing yesterday and already feel a difference. Dont have that bloated feeling after I eat.

  70. What were you saying about diluting the juice?? Do I have to dilute my juice?? Im new to juicing and that caught my attention. Thanks for your time!

  71. I have a friends daughter that was diagnosed with Lupus. She started juicing, mostly with Kale, Lemon and Carrots, but within 2 months, she was retested and her Lupus showed up negative!! 73. Michele, the Orthopedist said that I have pseudogout in my knee, a form of arthritis. I do not want to have another infiltration of cortisone in my body. What are the fruits and or vegetables that could help me. I love juicing.

  74. I am 100% new juicing. Sister just diagnosed with renal cell carcinoma. The whole family decided to “support” her but we want to EAT something warm. Is the nutrition just as good if you chew some of it and have it cooked like a vegetable soup?
