These fluffy and moist Vegan Banana Oatmeal Pancakes are so easy to prepare and they are delicious. They are made with simple ingredients including gluten-free rolled oats.

So my son Daevyd requested pancake this morning and right away I started thinking what kind of healthy pancake recipe could I make for him that will be easy to prepare and be different from the ones that I have already shared here.

I wanted to prepare a recipe for oatmeal pancakes without flour and share it with you all.
I have already shared my Strawberry Protein Pancakes, Carrot Cake Pancakes, Raspberry Almond Pancakes, and my Jamaican Banana Fritters Recipe. Having ripe bananas on hand,  I decided to make a recipe for easy oatmeal banana pancakes.

How To Make Banana Oatmeal Pancakes

The process to make these kid-friendly vegan Banana Oatmeal Pancakes pancakes were so easy that even your little ones can help. I made it the pancakes in a blender which made cleaning up so easy.

You want to start with a very ripe banana, the one with all the speckles. It will add nature flavor and sweetness to your pancakes. For the oatmeal, I used certified Gluten-Free Rolled Oats and my favorite brand is Bob’s, Red Mills.

I literally placed all the ingredients in my high-speed blender and process until smooth. The batter thickens as it sits so you want to bear that in mind when preparing your pancakes so don’t leave the batter sitting for too long.

I made this Vegan Banana Oatmeal Pancakes recipe three times and the first time I did I didn’t include the baking powder and the recipe turned out great, so it is totally up to you whether you use it or not.

If the batter gets too thick, add a little extra liquid whether it be more non-dairy milk or water and blend for about 4 seconds until batter is smooth and at the right consistency again.

I cook the pancakes on each side in a non-stick pan.  I usually put a lid on my skillet and leave it slightly open after I turn over the pancake just to make sure it cooks through. My favorite way to serve pancakes is topped with maple syrup and fruits. I also love to spread with peanut butter and jelly.

Is Oatmeal Gluten-free?

Note that although gluten-free oatmeal is used in the batter. You will find a percentage of individuals who are sensitive to gluten will also be sensitive to oatmeal.

Oatmeal doesn’t contain gluten but may get cross-contaminated with wheat during processing. The protein in oatmeal is called avenalin, it is similar to the protein in wheat called gluten.

However, some people who are sensitive to wheat find that they are also sensitive to oatmeal. They get the same bad reaction as they do when they consume wheat.

  1. Place all the ingredients in a blender, roll oats, almond milk, maple syrup, banana, vanilla, baking powder, salt. Process until completely smooth.
  2. Brush oil in a large non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat. Add batter and cook until edges are golden brown, about 2-3 minutes, flip the pancake and cook for another 2-3 minutes. Repeat until batter is all gone.
  3. Serve topped with maple syrup and fruits.

          I added 2 tablespoons maple syrup to the batter. When they are cooked, I topped it with extra maple syrup which is not necessary.

    I have a 2 year old extremely picky eater and…. She loved them! I did use a star cookie cutter to cut them. Thank you for the recipe :) We did use soy milk instead.

    Thank you for this recipe. I’ve just made them and they’re lovely! Mine didn’t come out fluffy, are they supposed to be? They were more like European style than American style pancakes. I live in the UK but generally prefer the American style. How can I make it fluffier next time?

      RJ, I haven’t eaten regular American pancakes in 22 years so I don’t remember what they should be like, I lived in England and I’m from Jamaica so they probably like European/Jamaican versions. All I know is they taste great and they are one of my most popular recipes. They are gluten-free and only made with oats so you would have to experiment with different flours to achieve that texture.

    My autoimmune disorder restricts my diet quite dramatically, so i was thrilled to find this recipe. I made these this morning. I can’t have almond milk, so i used coconut milk & i put in some heated blueberries. And i can’t use maple syrup so i omitted that too, but it was sweet enough for me. They were perfect. I cried because it’s been so long since I’ve had pancakes. I had such a delicious breakfast with a bit of cooked mango and a dollop of coconut yogurt on top.

    Hi Michelle, thanks again for another great recipe! I swapped the maple syrup for blackstrap molasses and used regular oats instead of gluten free. These pancakes were soon delicious! Though I’m not sure how much those changes may have affected the outcome as I definitely didn’t get 6 pancakes just about scraped 4. Thanks again!

    eating them now and they are delicious! i kept eating the batter before i even vooked them. i added a scoop of vega protein powder (mocha flavored) and a bit more milk since i added extra solid and it is sooooo good and quick to make. not heavy like typical flour based pancakes. making this a staple. thank you!!

      for macros with the way i did it – i added an extra 1.5 tablespoons of mappe syrup plus a bit of berries in addition to the vega one.

      this is good for me because i eat less calories with each meal.

    These sound delicious but I’m trying to avoid all types of sugar including maple syrup. Could I just leave that out? I think the banana would make it sweet enough for me

      Eleanor, it really depends on the size and the number of pancakes you make. My suggestion is to run the recipe through a recipe calculator like myfitnesspal or I used the latter and divided my batter into 6 portions but you could do make your portion size more or less. Hope this helps.

    These are super easy and so good!! More people need to realize that pancakes can taste amazing without adding dairy ingredients and processed sugar! I added a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar to make them a bit more fluffy and they turned out great!! :)
