Jamaican Steamed Cabbage RECIPE


– Cabbage, washed and chopped – Carrot, washed and grated – Olive oil or coconut oil – Onion, chopped – Garlic, minced – Red bell pepper, chopped – Fresh thyme, 2 sprigs – Green onions, chopped – Salt – Water or vegetable broth – Scotch Bonnet pepper, whole


Remove outer leaves of cabbage, cut in half, using a knife slice thinly discarding the inner core.

Saute vegetables

Heat oil in a large skillet on medium-high heat.

Saute onion, garlic, bell pepper, thyme, green onion, and salt.

Add cabbage and carrots to the skillet and stir well.

Add cabbage and carrots

Add water or broth and whole Scotch Bonnet pepper.

Cover and allow to cook for about 10 minutes stirring occasionally.


Discard the Scotch Bonnet pepper and serve the sauteed cabbage and carrots hot.
