Tropical Fruit Smoothie
Happy New Year to all my friends and supporters! Without your encouragement and support, this website would not have been a success.
I am looking forward to sharing lots more recipes and health tips with you in 2012 and I also thank you for your comments and feedbacks.
What better way to start the New Year than with this yummy recipe: Tropical Fruit Smoothie.
This smoothie is nutrient dense with lots of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants and is also a beneficial part of a weight loss program
Pineapple: Contains Vitamin C, potassium, calcium, and fiber. Vitamin C supports immune function and is also great to fight colds and flu. The potassium in pineapple supports the normal rhythmic pumping of the heart. Potassium also reduces the loss of calcium from the bones and reducing the risk of osteoporosis, therefore ensuring reduced calcium excretion in the urine. Pineapple also contains the digestive enzyme called bromelain, which breaks down protein in the body. Bromelain also contains anti-inflammatory properties, thus alleviating inflammation in arthritis, sports injury and asthma.
Coconut milk: is also high in vitamins, minerals. The saturated fats in coconut milk are mostly lauric acid which consists of short chain and medium chain fatty acids after it is consumed turns quickly into energy, therefore it actually will assist in a weigh loss program. Lauric acid is also anti-microbial, anti-bacterial, anti-viral and anti-fungal.
Papaya: Contains Vitamin A, which is great for eye support and prevention of macular degeneration. It also contains Vitamin C, which strengthens the immune system. The potassium in papaya supports the cardiovascular system. Papaya contains Papain a digestive enzyme similar to bromelain in pineapple. Therefore papaya helps relieve arthritis, sport injury and asthma. Both the flesh and the seeds are known to be anti-parasitic.
Banana: Contains potassium, Vitamin B6, Vitamin C, and fiber. The high potassium and low sodium content of this fruit makes it heart healthy, therefore it reduces the risk of high blood pressure and strokes.
Vitamin B6 in banana contains tryptophan (an amino acid), which helps the body to produce serotonin – a mood enhancer.
The high fiber content of this fruit makes this fruit great in alleviating constipation.
Ingredients:
1/2 cup coconut milk(you may also use almond, soy, or rice- Â 1/2 cup pineapple
- 1/2 cup papaya
- 1 frozen banana cut in small pieces
Place ingredients in blender and blend until creamy. Enjoy!
