Barbecue Tofu Sandwiches

These flavorful Barbecue Tofu Sandwiches are the perfect treat not only during the warmer months but all year around. Seasoned tofu slices, cooked until crisp, smothered with barbecue sauce and served with coleslaw.

Ingredients

  • 16 ounces extra-firm tofu
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt or 2 teaspoons Bragg's Liquid Aminos
  • 1 teaspoon nutritional yeast flakes
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 tablespoons avocado oil
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce
  • 1/2 cup coleslaw divided

Instructions

  • Drain the tofu, cut into 1/4 inch slices, pat dry with a clean kitchen towel, and place in a shallow dish.
  • Brush tofu slices with Bragg's Liquid Aminos, sprinkle with nutritional yeast flakes, onion powder, and garlic powder. Marinate for 20 minutes.
  • Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add tofu slices and cook until golden brown, about 4 minutes. Flip the tofu slices and cook the other side for about 3 minutes. Repeat until all slices are cooked.
  • over both sides of tofu and cook for about 1 minute to dry up the excess sauce. Remove from heat and set aside.
  • Place 2 slices of tofu on one side of the sandwich slice, top with coleslaw or shredded cabbage, followed by another slice of bread. Repeat until tofu slices are used up.
