Tofu Bacon

This flavorful tofu bacon recipe is so easy to bake, slices of tofu dipped in a smoky, slightly sweet marinade and baked until crispy. It is a delicious meatless bacon substitute that the entire family will love.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound tofu
  • 3 tablespoons Bragg's liquid aminos
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup
  • 2 teaspoons nutritional yeast flakes
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon liquid smoke

Instructions

  • If you are using extra-firm tofu, press water from tofu by wrapping it in a clean dishtowel or paper towel.
  • Place wrapped tofu on a plate and top with a heavy object like a pot or books for about 20 minutes.
  • Remove the cloth and transfer tofu unto a cutting board.
  • Preheat oven 400 degrees F. Prepare a baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper and lightly spraying it with cooking oil.
  • Combine marinade ingredients in a bowl, Bragg's Liquid Aminos, maple syrup, nutritional yeast flakes, sesame oil, smoked paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, liquid smoke. Mix well.
  • Cut tofu into thin slices about 1/8 inch thickness. Dip tofu into the marinade and place on the baking sheet.
  • Bake for 20 minutes, turn over slices, and bake for another 20 minutes or until tofu slices are beginning to crisp on the edges.
  • heat 1 tablespoon oil in a large non-stick skillet over medium-high heat. Add tofu slices and cook until edges are golden brown.
  • Flip tofu over and cook until the other side is brown. Make sure to keep on eye on the tofu slices so they won't burn.
  • The slices will continue to crisp up as they cool. Serve as a sandwich, 2 slices of tofu bacon with hummus, tomato, avocado.
