Brown Rice And Flaxseed Crackers
My Brown Rice And Flax Seed Crackers are easy to prepare, and they are gluten-free and vegan. They have a delicious flavor and a slight crunch, perfect for all your entertainment and dipping needs!
My son Daevyd comes running into the kitchen, saying “Mommy, Mommy, please make me crackers?”
I was in for the challenge because I never before had thought of making my own gluten-free crackers. My first thought was to make some brown rice crackers.
As I try to figure out a recipe, Daevyd exclaimed, “Mummy I want to help you!”
He started getting ingredients that he normally gets when making muffins, almond milk from the refrigerator, coconut sugar, and vanilla. I had to laugh to myself and wonder if he will always be this helpful.
Anyways, I wanted my first try to be a simple recipe ,so I decided to use brown rice flour with ground flaxseeds for extra nutrients, and I added a small amount of maple syrup for flavor.
The crackers had the perfect crunch just like traditional crackers, so we were very pleased with the outcome, including Daevyd.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup brown rice flour
- 2 tablespoons ground flaxseeds
- 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
- 1/3 cup water
- 2 tablespoons coconut oil
- 1 teaspoon maple syrup
Directions:
Preheat oven 425 degrees. Line baking sheet with parchment paper set aside. Place rice flour in a medium bowl. Add flaxseed, and sea salt stirring to combine. Mix water, coconut oil, and maple syrup. Add to dry mixture, stirring until fully incorporated. Using your hands’ form mixture into a dough. If the dough is too dry, add a little water until it’s more pliable. Place a layer of plastic wrap or parchment paper, then place dough on top. place another layer on top of dough. Using a rolling pin, roll the dough thin without breaking, about 1/8 inch thick. Using a knife or cookie cutter, cut dough into desired shapes and transfer to the baking sheet until all dough is used. Bake for 15 minutes or until golden brown. Transfer crackers onto a cooling rack, allow to fully cool and harden. Delicious as is or served with vegan cheese.

I just made these crackers this evening. Very tasty! When they were cool I used Kite Almond Milk Cheese with Chives as a spread and the combination was delicious. Thanks for the recipe! Will make again.
I can’t wait to make these, looks crunchy and delicious!
Thank you Stephanie, I hope you enjoy.
These were very delicious, thank you.
Do you think this recipe would work with a different kind of oil? I can’t have coconut in my diet. Maybe canola? If so, would it be the same amount?
Jenae, I only tested them with coconut oil so I am not certain if they will work.If you try them with canola oil, I would love to know if they turn out fine!
How adorable!! Sigh… Sadly they don’t always remain this helpful. They become teens. Enjoy him. I love all the healthy ingredients in this crackers and am glad your little one loved them.
I know Angela what you are saying, my daughter is 16 and I’m wondering where all the years went so I’m enjoying as much as possible. Thanks and I hope you enjoy the crackers!
Making your own crackers is such an easy thing to do. The ones from the store have so many ingredients! Love this recipe, especially the flax seed.
Thanks Rachel, I can’t wait to make more and yes some of the ones at the store contains chemicals to prolong their shelf life!
