Almost any dish can be enhanced by using bell peppers to add flavor, color, and intensity. In addition, the nutritional goodness of bell peppers is undeniable, regardless of their color. If your peppers are losing freshness, and you want to preserve them, read on to learn how to freeze bell pepper.

How Long Do Bell Peppers Last?

Fresh whole peppers last about 1-3 weeks in the fridge. However, you can keep your bell peppers fresher by freezing them for up to 6 months.

If you’re worried about your bell peppers spoiling, make sure to inspect them regularly. It is fortunately easy to spot when peppers have gone bad by their smell. They will also have lots of wrinkling or bruising, which will quickly turn into mold.

Peppers that are still firm indicate that they are still fresh. Any wrinkles on the skin of your peppers or any soft spots will mean that they are about to go off. Wrinkly or lightly bruised peppers can still be cooked, but they will not be as tasty when raw.

When your peppers begin to soften, the next natural step will be a slimy surface and possible mold growth. Mold on your peppers is a warning sign to get rid of them. Bell peppers that smell bad should be thrown out.

Finally, test your bell peppers by taking a few bites if you aren’t too sure they are okay. They should not be held on to if they are not up to standard.

How To Store Bell Peppers

Are you wondering where your bell peppers should be stored? It would be best if you kept your peppers in the vegetable drawer of the fridge.

When keeping bell peppers, ensure that they are as dry as possible. They can spoil faster if they are exposed to too much moisture.

It would be best if you stored your bell peppers in a plastic bag in the fridge or an airtight container. Then, you can absorb any excess moisture with a couple of paper towels.

You can also store cut bell peppers in the fridge for 1-3 days in an airtight container.

Can You Freeze Bell Peppers?

You can store bell peppers in the freezer if you want to keep them for longer than a few weeks. This allows you to always have some on hand for so many recipes.

Flash freezing your bell peppers is the next step. On a tray, arrange your pepper pieces in a single layer, preferably not touching one another. After you’ve frozen the tray for an hour or more, remove it from the freezer.

Once your peppers are frozen, please place them in a freezer bag with the date written on it. Make sure there is no air left inside, seal tightly, and place it in the freezer.

Use the frozen peppers straight from the freezer anywhere a cooked recipe calls for fresh bell pepper. For raw dishes, you may not want to use frozen bell pepper.

Getting a better understanding of what freezing does to peppers is good. After you freeze peppers, they will lose some of their crispness, even if you use them fairly quickly.

Therefore, frozen bell peppers might not be suitable for certain types of recipes. To make something where the bell peppers will be eaten raw, you may want to consider buying new, fresh peppers.

Are Bell Peppers Good For You?

The bell pepper belongs to the capsicum family and is related to the chili pepper. It is loved for its mildness and wonderful flavor, especially when sautéed. Paprika can actually be made from the dried peppers!

There is a lot of nutrition in bell peppers. Vitamins A, B6, K1, E, potassium, and folate is found in bell peppers. Vitamin C is also particularly abundant in red bell peppers.

In addition to contributing to eye health, bell peppers can help with anemia prevention. For all of these nutritious properties, you should certainly incorporate them into your diet.
