These days, we have many challenges and sadly, the excessive accruement of unwanted fats is one on the top of the list for most people. People are asking, “What’s the fastest and easiest way to burn all of this fat I no longer need?” Well, let’s be sympathetic to the plight. Truth is it can be a real struggle for most people. Let’s explore Biblical Weight Loss secrets.
Weight Loss Costs
America has a high percentage of the overweight population who are desperately seeking a way to reduce body fat and be in shape again. It’s a real uphill task.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have some startling statistics on the matter of adult obesity. A comment on the website reads, “Obesity is a common, serious, and costly disease.”
Here are some facts on the matter:
- From 1999 – 2000 through 2017 – March 2020, US obesity prevalence increased from 30.5% to 41.9% during the same time, the prevalence of severe obesity increased from 4.7% to 9.2%. (NHANES)
- Obesity-related conditions include heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, and certain types of cancer. These are among the leading causes of preventable, premature death.
- The estimated annual medical cost of obesity in the United States was nearly $173 billion in 2019 dollars. Medical costs for adults who had obesity were $1,861 higher than medical costs for people with a healthy weight.
So, what’s the solution? I can tell you for sure, there are lots of remedies, routines, etc., out there with the promise of getting you slimmed or trimmed in a short time. But do they work? Only those who have tried them will have that answer.
But here we have a remedy for your weight loss. It’s one we have found in the Bible. Funny isn’t it? Well, depends on what tickles you. As I said, for many this is not funny, because they desperately need an answer to help them.
What next? What are the already attempted strategies for obesity?
You might have tried to get 60 to 90 minutes of exercise every day to lose weight. Yes, that’s necessary but it’s not a secret anymore that’s now scientific. Maybe you have tried a plant-based whole food where most of your food is fiber insoluble that adds zero calories to the overall diet. There are these different formulas and many others but here is one that has been found to work. It’s in fact, not a new invention but only a discovery.
Biblical Diet Plan
From the scriptures, there was already a system God used. It might not have been explicitly prescribed weight loss formula, but today, science understands better.
Here it is: It’s the formula of eating only twice a day. God gave it to the children of Israel in the wilderness. This concept is not new; actually, we’ve had this concept for 3,500 years since the birth of the nation of Israel when 2.5 million people moved from Egypt to Canaan. This is what the Bible says,
13 And it came to pass, that at even the quails came up, and covered the camp: and in the morning the dew lay round about the host.
14 And when the dew that lay was gone up, behold, upon the face of the wilderness there lay a small round thing, as small as the hoar frost on the ground.
. Exodus 16:13-14 KJV
God provided them with two meals – evening and morning.
Another instance of this feeding formula was when Elijah the prophet was on the run at the threat of Jezebel. What did God do? He fed him twice a day. It says,
6 And the ravens brought him bread and flesh in the morning, and bread and flesh in the evening; and he drank of the brook.. 1 Kings 17:6 KJV
Elijah had a supply of bread and meat twice daily with sufficient water. What does all this mean? Is there a rationale behind this kind of formula for feeding? As I said earlier, science now has an explanation for us. This explanation tilts towards a healthy lifestyle. In itself, this system of feeding is a formula for weight loss.
15 The eyes of all wait upon thee; and thou givest them their meat in due season.
16 Thou openest thine hand and satisfiest the desire of every living thing. Psalm 145:15-16 KJV
How? Science Explains
It appears there are four hormones the human body releases that are wonderfully made to regulate certain events in our body and inadvertently control weight gain. These hormones are cortisol, thyroid, leptin, and insulin. Some of them sound familiar already. So, here’s how they work in helping us maintain good health and avoid being overweight.
This hormone is highest at six o’clock in the morning. So if you divide your day into twelve hours – 6 A.M to 6 P.M – that’s sunlight, then the other part of your day 6 P.M to 6 A.M that’s night.
Science has found that the cortisol hormone is highest at 6 A.M. And after you wake up, there is a surge of this cortisol hormone. It turns your body into a high-activity machine.
Most of what you eat early in the morning, when cortisol level is high turns to energy. Your body is programmed to convert everything to energy first thing in the morning. How To Balance Cortisol Levels Naturally?
The second hormone is the thyroid hormone. Your thyroid hormone drives your metabolic rate, and it is highest first thing in the morning. If you can work with your thyroid hormone first thing in the morning, you will find that your metabolic rate is high and you’re burning fat; meaning you’re losing weight.
The next hormone is leptin. And just like cortisol and thyroid, leptin is at its highest level first thing in the morning.
Leptin is the hormone that turns down your appetite and initiates a series of fat-burning mechanisms.
The next hormone is insulin. It is a little bit different. At its lowest level, insulin is burning fat and turns it into glucose – a process called gluconeogenesis, a metabolic process where glucose is formed mostly in the liver from non-carbohydrate precursors.
Glucose level is increased from fat in a non-feed state. When you’re fasting, the fat is turned to glucose, and your glucose level is lowest first thing in the morning.
What Do We Make Of This?
Here, you have a situation where you have a high feed high activity level in the first part of the day, and towards the end of the day, you have a low feed low activity level.
If you get most of your calories in the first part of the day, you will be burning fat, and if you do this before you put anything in your mouth, this fat turns from fat to glucose. Now you can drink water but if you put anything in your mouth, insulin is released and the process stops.
So, if you get fifty percent of your calories for breakfast and fifty percent of your calories before 2:00 P.M, you will be burning fat. If you get your calories after 5:00 P.M, you’re getting eighty percent of your calories; you are essentially just continually storing fat.
This is dangerous for the health because you could then get what is called central obesity. Then you get diabetes, high blood pressure, stroke, and possibly different cancers.
This unhealthy weight acquirement this way brings on an additional 263 diseases. This unhealthy weight has now been classified as an incurable disease.
So, here we are talking about eating only twice a day and doing so early too. I mean when you have a pretty early dinner at say 2:00 P.M, what happens at 5, 6, 7, or 8 P.M when hunger comes knocking again?
You know how those hunger pangs can get. You almost feel like you were giving up the ghost right? Well, the good news is that’s not hunger.
It’s an addictive sensation from the amygdala (one of the two sections of the brain, located as a pair in the medial temporal lobe, believed to play a key role in processing emotions like fear and pleasure). It lasts 20 minutes and you can train the frontal cortex to override this sensation from the amygdala.
The Help You Need
The temptation to eat at the previously observed time will be strong. Now, you want to change your timetable and eat earlier. Coupled with that, you want to stop eating late at night. That’s going to be hard.
In light of this, you may want to use the goal-setting strategy to help you. How does it work? It’s all about intention and dedication to the cause. Set a goal and follow through; it’s that simple.
Decide exactly what you want to achieve. Set smart goals that are specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and timely.
So, for instance, I want to lose 20 pounds in 9 months. It’s specific, it’s measurable and attainable. It’s realistic and you have your timeline. What you want to achieve determines the goals you set. How badly do you need it? That should be your motivation.
You come up with daily, monthly, and yearly goals. You could also have smaller time blocks to measure progress. Another thing you want to do is to mentalize where you want to be according to your set period of achievement. The pictures you keep alive in your mind will bolster you to do what you need to do.
Discipline is never easy but take this as an exception that must be done. This is beyond looking hip and in shape, it’s about your health and ultimately your life.
You can’t handle this with kid gloves. You must be resilient in running the full course. I can assure you there will be days you wish to just break the cycle and do what you want, but you can’t afford to do that.
Get negative thoughts out of your mind. Focus on the good that should come out of it. Think about how much better your life can be without diabetes, obesity, heart problems, and all the cancers that can arise from being overweight.
Also, there’s another protocol you can use – the Blue Zone Adventists protocol. It just says to drink a glass of cold water whenever you get that sensation that you must eat at seven o’clock or any late hour at night. Get a glass of cold water and within five minutes that sensation goes away. How Much Water To Drink In A Day To Lose Weight?
Additionally, you can use positive psychology where you use prayer or gratitude therapy where you list two or three things that you can be thankful for.
You could also use a change in location and move from where you are to somewhere else, like going for a walk. Call a friend or call a support system or an accountability partner. You could use any one of these protocols to help you achieve what you must achieve.
You can use this strategy for weight loss to make your life better. So, 50% of your calories first thing in the morning and 50% of your calories before 2:00 P.M. You may keep it later than 2 P.M but nothing too late into the afternoon. And at night you use these protocols to keep you sane from the temptation of eating late while you’re making progress. With this, you can lose all the weight you want to lose and you can do it permanently too.
Remember, health is wealth. The moment you begin to lose good health, life begins to lose meaning too. You have to do what you know is right while you still can.
