Day 7 of Juicing: The Perfect Spring Tonic

Dandelion, popularly known as a tenacious weed that loves our lawns, is actually a very beneficial herb with numerous healing properties. It is cultivated as a herb in Germany, France, China, and recently the USA. The leaf is approved in Germany to be used to stimulate appetite and to treat an upset stomach. The root is also approved for treatment of bile flow disturbance, such as in conditions like hepatitis, jaundice, and cirrhosis of the liver; and is a diuretic.

Liver Conditions and Gallstones

Dandelion increases bile flow in the liver, increasing the function of the liver and strengthening it especially with those with a sluggish liver as a result of alcohol abuse. It also lowers the possibility of developing gallstones.

Bladder Infections

Dandelion leaves are rich in potassium and are more beneficial as a diuretic than conventional diuretic drugs, which cause potassium loss. Dandelion is therefore beneficial in helping to release urine in bladder infections.

Premenstrual Syndrome

Dandelion helps in relieving fluid retention in PMS due to its diuretic effects.

Anemia

Dandelion contains a high level of iron and magnesium, therefore it has been used to treat anemia.

Skin Health

Botanical healers believe that clogged pores, skin irritations, and pimples are symptoms of internal imbalance. They recommend using remedies that heal from inside, e.g. detoxifying the body, and working to get the digestive system to function better. Dandelion helps.

Arthritis

Dandelion heals liver function, improving flow of bile, which in turn improves arthritic conditions

  3. Thank you and welcome. I used granny smith because of its lower sugar content. If I know someone is not used to green juices I’ll introduce them with other juicing apples like fuji or honeycrisp. Juices take 15 – 20 minutes to get in the bloodstream, therefore there shouldn’t be any concerns with indigestion.

  4. In looking at the picture posted with the ingredients, I am assuming the apples for this recipe are Granny Smith? Or does it make a difference? Sorry, I am new here! :)
