Lime water is not only a tasty and refreshing drink, but it is also beneficial for your health. It gives you a lot of vitamin C, antioxidants, and minerals like calcium, iron, potassium, magnesium, copper, and phosphorus.
Lime water adds flavor to plain water and makes it more interesting. It’ll be easier for people who have trouble drinking an adequate amount of water to sip on it. Of course, we love anything that keeps the body hydrated!
Benefits of Lime Water:
1. Promotes water drinking
70 percent of the human body is composed of water, which shows the importance of water for human health. An average person should drink at least 8 glasses of water daily. Water helps your body to flush out the waste material that comes from the normal running of the body. The more water you drink, the easier your body does this process.
Many people do not like plain water, so by squeezing lime juice in a glass of water you can add flavor to it and make it tolerable for drinking. This way, you can intake an adequate amount of water, keeping your body hydrated and energized.
2. Lowers blood sugar level
Many people are familiar with the health benefits of drinking lime water for detoxification and aiding in digestion, but few know that it can also be beneficial for blood sugar levels. Drinking a glass of water before meals have been shown to help control blood sugar by promoting insulin sensitivity and reducing the amount of glucose that is released into the bloodstream.
In addition, it has been shown to increase the absorption of other nutrients, such as magnesium and potassium, which can also help to keep blood sugar levels under control.
In addition, lime contains a low glycemic index and thus helps regulate the absorption of sugar into the bloodstream. As a result, fewer blood sugar spikes would be experienced.
So, sip on lime water throughout the day to get its blood sugar-regulating benefits!
3. Reduces Inflammation
When we’re dealing with inflammation, our whole body suffers. Acne, joint pain, and even a weaker immune system are a few symptoms that can stem from chronic inflammation. Thankfully, there are plenty of ways to reduce inflammation and look sharp as well – all you have to do is drink some lime water.
This powerful detoxifier has been shown to help clear away toxins and promote healthy skin cells, which will in turn reduce the amount of inflammation your body is carrying around.
The vitamin C present in lime water is beneficial for reducing inflammation, and preventing and relieving arthritis, joint pain, and stiffness. Limes contain antioxidants that help reduce inflammation and even help prevent infections and certain chronic illnesses, speeding up your body’s healing process.
In a study published in the journal “Pharmaceutical Research,” researchers found that drinking a beverage containing lime effectively reduced inflammation in people with rheumatoid arthritis. The researchers used three types of water – untreated tap water, lime water, and mineral water – and found that the beverage containing lime was most effective at reducing inflammation.
Some studies even suggest that if you have inflammation associated with skin conditions like rosacea or eczema, using lime water can help reduce inflammation and improve skin health. Mix one lime juice with 8 ounces of cold water and apply to the skin twice daily. This treatment is also good for treating acne and other skin problems.

4. Prevents kidney stones
Lime water contains citric acid which does not alkalinize the urine as citrate does. It prevents small stones from becoming problem stones by coating them and preventing other materials from attaching and building onto the stones. Also, it provides plenty of water which dilutes the urine.
Additionally, lime water helps to dissolve the minerals that can form into kidney stones. By drinking lime water on a regular basis, you can help keep your kidneys healthy and free from potential stone formations.
5. Source of vitamin C
Lime water is an excellent way to get your daily dose of vitamin C. It is a popular drink choice for people who want to boost their immune system, prevent colds, and improve dental hygiene.
Vitamin C is also essential for the production of collagen and elastin, two proteins that help keep your skin, bones, and connective tissues healthy.
Other benefits include:
- Reducing the risk of chronic diseases such as cancer, heart disease, and diabetes
- Regulating blood sugar levels
- Preventing oxidative damage to cells and tissues
- Improving mental clarity and cognitive function

Cancer is a serious disease, and despite all the advances in medical technology, it still claims lives every day. While there is no single cure for cancer, there are many ways that you can help to prevent it from happening. One of the most effective methods is by drinking lime water regularly.
Drinking lime water can lower the risk of developing cancer and help you fight the disease. The antioxidant capabilities of lime promote healthy cell growth and improve the function of your immune system.
Lime water has been shown to have anti-cancer properties in both research studies and clinical trials, making it one of the best natural remedies for preventing cancer.
7. Improves skin
If you’re looking for a natural way to improve your skin, lime water is a great option. Not only does it help to clear up blemishes and pores, but it can also soothe irritated skin and reduce the appearance of cellulite.
Lime water is said to be beneficial for skin because it has high levels of vitamin C, which helps to fight against free radical damage and inflammation. Additionally, it contains antioxidants which can help to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and age spots.
Besides drinking it, place your lime water in a spray bottle and use it to mist your face and hair. You can also add a few drops of lime to your bath.

It may shorten the span of an illness. Vitamin C in lime has also a deep impact on the growth of white blood cells.
10. Helps with digestion
Drinking lime water improves digestion. Limes are acidic and aid saliva to break down food for better digestion. Flavonoids in lime stimulate the secretion of digestive juices. The acid present in lime juice also helps in the further digestive breakdown and helps the stomach’s process. Limes may help the body in getting rid of waste.
11. Protects the eye
It’s no secret that we humans are constantly bombarded with harmful light. From the sun’s ultraviolet rays to artificial lighting, our eyes are constantly in danger of damage. One powerful way to protect your eyes from this damage is by drinking lime water.
Not only does it provide refreshing relief on a hot day, but it also helps to prevent oxidative stress and inflammation in the eye which can lead to vision problems down the line.
As a rich source of vitamin C, lime juice protects the cornea in the eyes against UV-B radiation from the sun. Consuming fresh lime water regularly can improve your eyesight and protect your eyes.

Including lime water as part of a healthy lifestyle may also offer some protection.
For instance, lime water is a good source of magnesium and potassium, which promote heart health. Potassium can lower blood pressure naturally and improve blood circulation, which reduces the risk of heart attack and stroke.
It is also high in antioxidants, which fight inflammation and protects your heart muscles against oxidative stress.
13. Treats respiratory disorders
The flavonoid-rich oils extracted from limes may be used extensively in anti-congestive medicines such as balms, vaporizers, and inhalers due to the presence of kaempferol. Just scratching the peel of a lime and inhaling it might give immediate relief from nasal congestion and nausea. It also freshens the breath!

Lime water:
I don’t find that a recipe for lime water is necessary. Rather, I’ll give you some tips and you can customize your lime water to fit your lifestyle and preferences.
- Juice fresh limes, rather than using bottled lime juice (at least if you can). You’ll experience a higher quality taste and all of the health benefits present in the fresh fruit.
- Make it as sour as you like, or add just a bit of lime juice for a touch of tart flavor.
- Add other cut fruits, citruses, and herbs. I love adding grapefruit, cucumber, and mint. Add whatever your heart desires!
- You can add sweetener, even though I prefer not to. If I do use sweetener, I use stevia, monk fruit, or erythritol.
- Your lime water can be as simple or complicated as you like. Whatever gets you to drink more water!
