Healthy Apple Crisp (Gluten Free & Vegan

A very easy, tasty and Healthy Apple Crisp for your holiday pleasure that is gluten-free and vegan! Lightly sweetened, moist and spiced apples, topped with a crunchy topping.

Healthy Apple Crisp


This Healthy Apple Crisp is one of the easiest desserts you can make for the holidays. It’s not only gluten-free and vegan but it is also refined sugar-free.

I peel and chop the apples, tossed with maple syrup, tapioca starch, and spices. I then place filling in a prepared baking dish and topped with oatmeal and almond meal mixture.

I love to use Bob’s Red Mill Old Fashioned Gluten-Free Rolled Oats because it is certified Gluten-Free where each batch is produced and tested in a gluten-free facility.

I love to serve it warm topped with a vegan ice cream during cold winter evenings. Eating apple crisps takes me back to my years living in England, where I enjoyed rhubarb crumbles and ice cream. The rhubarb for the crumble was grown in the garden and freshly picked. 

My Berry Crisp is another variation of mouthwatering crisp or  how about a delicious apple treat, Apple Crumble Muffins.

5 apples (I used Fuji and Granny Smith), peeled and diced
1/4 cup maple syrup, or sweetener of choice
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 tablespoon tapioca starch or cornstarch
1 teaspoon coriander
Pinch of cardamom

1/2 cup gluten free rolled oats(Bob Mills)
1/2 cup almond flour
1/4 cup coconut oil
1/4 cup maple syrup or other sweetener
1 teaspoon vanilla
Pinch of salt

Preheat oven 350 degrees. Grease baking dish and set aside.

Peel, core and dice apples, and place in a bowl. Add lemon juice and maple syrup, and stir to combine. Sprinkle tapioca starch, coriander, cardamom, toss to coat.

Pour apple mixture into prepared baking dish and set aside.

In another bowl add oats, almonds flour, salt and stir well. Mix in coconut oil, maple syrup, and vanilla. Mix with fingers or fork until crumbly. Spread oat mixture on top of apples.

Cover baking dish and bake for 46 minutes, uncover baking dish and bake for 10 more minutes or until topping browns. Delicious served with vanilla ice cream warm or can be served cold.
