Cream cheese frosting has always been my favorite way to top a cake. Buttercream is amazing, but cream cheese just adds something extra to your desserts. Some examples of simple recipes you can take up a notch are Pumpkin Muffins, Hummingbird Muffins, and Banana Muffins.

Vegan Cream Cheese Frosting

Normal buttercream frosting is usually made by mixing butter and powdered sugar into a fluffy sweet paste. Cream cheese frosting is usually made similarly, but with the addition of the titular cream cheese.

Most popularly, cream cheese icing is used with carrot cake, spice cake, and red velvet cake. I love the tastiness of my vegan cream cheese frosting so much I use it with most cakes I bake.

Refined Sugar-Free Frosting

I decided to make this recipe without the usual powdered sugar. Commercial powdered sugar is usually made with refined white sugar, which I try not to eat since it is terrible for your health.

I could make powdered sugar by blending some organic cane sugar until powdery, but I decided to take it a step further and make this a refined sugar-free frosting. The result is this wonderfully fluffy cream cheese frosting that I could honestly eat with a spoon.

Is It OK For Cream Cheese Frosting To Sit Out?

Cream cheese frosting can sit at room temperature for two hours. However, it is important to note that the warmer frosting gets, the softer it gets. If you’re interested in a very neat icing job or any piping, you’ll definitely want to keep any frosting you use quite cool.
