Fruits That Start With I

It’s always intriguing to know more about the foods we eat, motivating us to improve our health. So today, let’s explore fruits that start with I.

You may know some of them, but some might amaze you. From Imbe fruit to Illama to Indian fig fruit, we’ve covered it all. All of the fruits on this list are edible and provide a lot of nutrients.

Ice Cream Bean

Ice cream bean fruit is popular in various places because of its flavor, similar to vanilla ice cream. This tropical fruit not only has a yummy taste but also provides several beneficial nutrients to our bodies. Vitamin A, vitamin B, vitamin C, protein, fiber, and antioxidants are all present.

Ice cream beans are actually legumes, the pods are approximately one foot long, with a cotton candy texture.

Imbe Fruit

The Imbe fruit also called African mangosteen is native to Africa and appears like a blend between a cherry and a mango. Imbe fruit is in the garcinia family, however, you may not see many of them because their skin is fragile and can only be grown in certain places.

Ilama Fruit

Illama fruits, whose scientific name is Annona diversifolia, like Soncoya and cherimoya, are closed. There are two different varieties of illama, one is green, and the other is pink. Green illama has a white and sweet core, whereas pink illama has a tart taste.

Illawarra Plum Fruit

 Illawarra Plum, scientifically named podocarpus elatus, is a small bush fruit, from the east coast of Australia. Also known as Goongum, Daalgaal, Gidneywallum, and Plum Pine.

On the outside of the fruit can be seen the actual seed. The seed is removed by twisting it off the fruit and the fruit is eaten raw. The Illawarra plum is used as a decorative tree and a street tree or using in boat planking, furniture, etc. It is also used as a medication to boost histone deacetylase activity and reduce colon cancer cell growth.

 

Indian Almond Fruit

The Indian almond is a tropical tree, native to Australi and Asia. It is also referred to as Malabar almond, tropical almond, beach almond, and sea almond due to the fruit’s property to float. The edible components are the flesh and the seed, which are located in the center of the fruit. It tastes so much like almonds, as the name implies.

Indian Fig Fruit

Indian fig fruit, scientifically known as Opuntia Ficus-Indica. It is a cactus species originally from Mexico, also known as Tuna Fruit, prickly pear, barbary fig, spineless cactus, cactus pear  The fruit has a sweet flesh that tastes more like a cherry than a fig.
