Cauliflower Fried Rice is a tasty dinner option you should definitely try! It’s low-carb, easy to make, and has so much flavor you won’t miss the rice.

Fried rice is a popular Chinese dish all around the world. I don’t recall when I first tried it; I was probably around 5 or 6 years old, and I still adore it. I still do, which is why I’ve shared a few of my favorite recipes with you.

Today I’m going to share another fried rice recipe, and it’s even better than ordinary fried rice.

Many people dislike cauliflower, and I think this is due to a lack of awareness about how to cook it properly. I used to despise it, but no more. The more you cook with it, the more you’ll appreciate this wonderful vegetable.

Cauliflower is a very versatile vegetable, and I enjoy experimenting with it. Making this cruciferous vegetable into “rice” is one of my favorite uses for it. Because rice can make dishes feel weighty, replacing it with a vegetable instead of a carbohydrate is a good idea. Whether you like cauliflower or not, this recipe is a game-changer. It’s also healthier and a wonderful way to eat more vegetables.

I like to use cauliflower rice as a side dish because I try to have carbs in all of my meals, but you may use it as a rice substitute if you’re on a low-carb diet.

What Is Cauliflower Fried Rice?

I’m relieved to report that I’m no longer doubtful. My only regret is that I did not attempt it sooner. To make this “rice,” simply grate the cauliflower into rice-like kernels and fry it in the same manner as you would rice. The flavor and texture are quite similar to the real thing.

Note: It is now available in various stores in the frozen foods section.

How To Cook Cauliflower Fried Rice?

It is very easy to cook cauliflower fried rice. You just need the following basic ingredients.

Cauliflower Fried Rice Ingredients:

  • Cauliflower – washed, cut cauliflower into bite-sized pieces,  then process in a food processor to look like rice. You can also purchase pre-made cauliflower rice in the grocery stores.
  • Broccoli florets – cut into bite-sized pieces, broccoli is nutritious and flavorful.
  • Sesame oil – adds a bold flavor to your fried rice, use your favorite oil or saute fried rice with vegetable broth.
  • Onion, Garlic, Ginger – add lots of flavors to cauliflower fried rice.
  • Carrot – adds color, nutrients, and sweet flavor.
  • Green peas – add fresh or frozen green peas. You can substitute the green peas with edamame.
  • Onion, Garlic – adds a boost of flavor.
  • Bragg’s Liquid Aminos  -or substitute with Tamari.
  • Green onion – sliced green onions added at the end. 

Directions:

  1. Chop cauliflower into bite-size pieces and process in a food processor until it resembles rice. Set aside in a bowl.
  2. In a large skillet, heat sesame oil or water on medium-high heat. Sauté onions until translucent, about 3 minutes, add garlic and ginger.
  3. Sauté another minute. Add broccoli florets, carrots, and cook, stirring for another 2 minutes. Stir in cauliflower ‘rice,’  green peas, onion powder, garlic powder, soy sauce. Cover the skillet and cook for 3 minutes more or until the cauliflower is tender.
  4. Remove from heat, stir in green onions. Serve immediately!

Ideas or Serving

This cauliflower recipe, which has a texture and flavor equal to fried rice, may be served with anything.

It’s a terrific way to get an additional serving of vegetables whether you’re on a diet or not. And, in my experience, the recipe is well received by even the pickiest eaters in my family.

I normally pair it with a plant-based protein (beans, legumes, tofu, seitan, or tempeh, for example) and a healthy or unprocessed carbohydrate (like pasta, bread, potatoes, etc.).

Storage Suggestions

Cauliflower fried rice can keep for 4 to 5 days in the fridge. You can keep it in a freezer-safe container for a few months! When you’re ready to eat, defrost it out and then sauté it until it’s nice and fluffy.

Recipe Notes

  • Some people use the food processor’s grater attachment to grind the cauliflower into rice, but I do not. But it’s entirely up to you.
  • Cauliflower rice could be eaten raw or used in salads and other vegan raw recipes. On the other hand, Cooked cauliflower is easy to digest and has a superior texture and flavor, in my opinion.
  • Cauliflower rice may be made in large batches and then used in a variety of dishes, such as this one, that only require a few minutes of prep time.
  • If you do not want to use oil or water in this recipe, you can use vegetable broth instead.
  • You can use any vegetables, herbs, or spices you have available.
  • You can replace soy sauce with tamari or coconut aminos. You could also season with salt to taste.
  • If you don’t like sesame oil, you can substitute it with any other oil. However, l love to use sesame oil in my recipes because of its flavor.
