Vegan Fudge

During the holidays, and in fact all throughout the year, there are so many occasions and get-togethers with family or friends where you’ll want to make a yummy vegan dessert. However, these special occasions can also be a source of stress for the host, and desserts are notoriously complicated; this is where my Vegan Fudge comes into play.

This recipe only requires a few minutes of your time, only a handful of ingredients, but has a decadent result. If you are looking for other vegan gluten-free desserts to try, also check out my Banana Cake, Orange Almond Cake, or Carob Zucchini Bread.

I absolutely love making this vegan fudge recipe as a quick and easy dessert option, especially for entertaining family or kids. It is such an easy “set it and forget it” type of recipe that everyone will love, but won’t stress you out.

This is so important especially during the holidays when everyone being under your feet and your to-do list being pages long already have you on edge. Kids will also love helping you out with this and eating the result, so you can use this vegan fudge as a way to keep them busy.

What is Fudge?

Fudge is a type of soft, chewy candy, made in a large variety of flavors with different ingredients. It is especially common in tourist area gift shops, possibly because it is a fairly low-effort dessert with a pleasing result.

Is Fudge Vegan?

The process required to make traditional fudge is cooking milk, sugar, and butter, and some modern recipes use condensed milk as a shortcut. Both of these recipes are not vegan, so vegans can’t usually buy fudge or make the commonly found recipes without some modification and experimentation.

Vegan Fudge Ingredients

  • Vegan Condensed Milk – You can use my recipe, or you can find vegan condensed milk in some grocery stores, such as Walmart and Kroger in the US.
  • Chocolate or Carob Chips – This is the base of your fudge. Most people will want to use chocolate chips, but I prefer to use carob chips. Not all chocolate chips are vegan, so be sure that yours are. Most major grocery stores in the US do have a vegan option.
  • Chopped Walnuts – Nuts are a staple in fudge, and you can use other nuts or a mixture if you prefer. Experiment with which ones you prefer!
  • Vanilla Extract – I love adding vanilla flavor to most sweet recipes, but you can also use almond, coconut, etc. to truly make this recipe your own.

How To Make Vegan Fudge?

  1. Spray a small square pan (I used a 6×6 pan) with neutral oil spray, or brush with oil if you don’t have spray. You can also line with parchment paper if you are worried about the fudge sticking, however, oil was enough for me.
  2. Add condensed milk to a small saucepan, and heat on low while stirring constantly. Fold in chocolate or carob chips, while continuing to stir gently.
  3. When chips are fully melted and combined with condensed milk, fold in the walnuts and vanilla.
  4. Pour into the pan, and smooth the mixture with a spatula or jiggle the pan to even it out.
  5. Refrigerate for at least one hour to set. Flip pan over onto a clean surface, or lift out by parchment paper. Cut into squares, and serve immediately or keep refrigerated until ready to serve.

Michelle, I’m So thankful I discovered this delicious vegan fudge recipe. My daughter became vegan due to a medical condition. As a mom, it’s been hard to find a good “sweet treat” to make for her on special occasions. I’ve made this recipe many times, and it always comes out perfectly delicious. Honestly, it’s as good as any “non-vegan” fudge I’ve ever tasted. Thanks SO much for sharing!

    1. Jo, this is awesome. You don’t know how much I appreciate your feedback, thank you very much. I’m so happy you and your daughter enjoy it.

    1. Hello Roy, yes carob powder will definitely need fat, you could try using kinds of nut butter, like cashew or almond butter or cocoa butter.
