Potato

The potato is an excellent source of fiber. Potatoes can be prepared in a variety of ways, including mashed, roasted, baked, au gratin, grilled, scalloped, and potato salad.

I used baby potatoes in this recipe. Baby potatoes are ideal for this one-pot meal since their skin is so thin and soft that you don’t even need to peel it before cooking. But I have peeled potatoes in this recipe.

In addition to being a strong source of vitamin B3, potato skins are also high in the nutrients fiber and iron. More nutrients are found in the potato peel than in the flesh!

Baby potatoes contain all the nutritional benefits of regular potatoes, plus a milder, sweeter flavor and creamier texture.

Maple

The garlic and maple syrup are the most important parts of this recipe. The caramelization of the maple syrup makes the potatoes taste great. It’s savory with a hint of sweetness and a garlicky taste (if you don’t like garlic, just leave it out!)

But that’s not all. Maple syrup also has a lot of antioxidants and is a good substitute for processed sugars. To sweeten your food, choose pure maple syrup instead of refined white sugar.

Using maple syrup instead of sugar or honey is a great idea. On the other hand, maple syrup itself does contain a substantial quantity of sugar, so it is best to use it sparingly. All maple syrup, however, is not made equal. Use high-quality maple syrup while making this recipe for savory and sweet potatoes. If you can, go organic.

Try to find maple syrups that don’t have a lot of added sugar and, if possible, ones that are all organic (minimally processed).

Garlic

Another major ingredient is garlic, which is highly healthful.

  • It contains anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antiviral, and antioxidant effects.
  • Garlic aids in lowering blood pressure and cholesterol levels, protecting against stroke, and maintaining heart health.
  • It has also been used as a folk treatment for centuries to treat coughs, colds, and digestive issues.
  • It resolves issues with the skin, hair, and stomach.

Why Will You Love This Recipe?

  • Easy: Preparation is really simple and you don’t need any particular abilities. The ingredients they use are easy to find. Because we use whole baby potatoes, these Potatoes take very little hands-on time.
  • One-pan Recipe: This side dish may be prepared in just one pan, making it ideal for when time is of the essence. I’m always in favor of having fewer dishes to clean.
  • Vegan and Gluten-Free: If you’re looking for a vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free side dish, try this recipe.
  • Quick: You should just need around 15-20 minutes to complete the preparation work. That is advantageous, especially if you serve a number of dishes at the same time.
  • Flavor: Vegetables’ natural sweetness is highlighted when baked or roasted at a high temperature, enhancing the flavor. The potato flavor comes through strongly. In contrast to many potato side dishes, which employ copious amounts of sweet ingredients, we only use a tiny bit of maple syrup in this recipe to bring out the taste of the potatoes.
  • In addition to being ideal for hectic nights with limited time, they are also family-friendly.

Recipe’s Required Ingredients

  • Avocado oil: Avocado oil or any oil with a neutral taste, like canola oil, peanut oil, grapeseed oil, or vegetable oil. Olive oil has an aroma and a faint taste, so I wouldn’t advise using it.
  • Garlic: They are minced finely to add flavor to the dish. The pungent flavor of garlic perfectly balances the sweetness of maple syrup.
  • Baby Potatoes: Though I have used baby potatoes, use whatever you choose, starchy or all-purpose, because they cook up light and airy and take on whatever flavor you put into them. The best varieties include Yukon Gold, Elba, Toss fingerling, and Russets.
  • Salt: To add a savory flavor, season with salt.
  • Red Chili Flakes/Cayenne Pepper: Although it is optional, I have used cayenne pepper to add a little bit of heat to this dish. You can, however, use red chili flakes as per your liking.
  • Maple syrup: A necessary ingredient for this recipe; nothing else will do!
  • Cilantro: We use fresh herbs because they are fragrant and offer a lot of flavors.

Storage Suggestions

These potatoes keep well for up to a week in the refrigerator when stored in an airtight container. Put them in the freezer for up to a month.

You can prepare it ahead of time by first boiling the potatoes and then storing them. Before eating, combine the potatoes with maple, garlic, and other seasonings. In this manner, the garlic stays crisp and the potatoes avoid getting soggy from the syrup.

Reheat them for one minute in the microwave before eating them.

Tips

  1. Any boiled vegetable, including carrots, green beans, cauliflower, and broccoli, may be added in addition to potatoes.
  2. Be sure to cook the vegetables, set them aside, and then add the garlic and maple right before serving.
  3. You can also roast potatoes and vegetables in the oven with the rest of the ingredients.
  4. Though potatoes should be peeled for this recipe, you can choose to leave the skin on since it is edible.
  5. Test the pieces of potato with a fork to see if they are cooked through. When you pierce them, the flesh ought to be soft and there shouldn’t be any resistance.
  6. If you are not vegan, you can substitute honey for maple syrup.
  7. This dish is not too sweet. If desired, add more maple syrup.
  8. You can make this recipe with any variety of regular or sweet potatoes.

Optional Garnish:

  • Green onions are an optional garnish that can add color to your potato dish and are frequently used as a garnish in Korean cuisine.
  • Potatoes can be drizzled with sesame oil as a final touch. If you prefer that, don’t take too much because it has a pungent fragrance. The majority of Asian, Western, and even internet retailers like Amazon carry this product.

Frequently Asked Questions

How Long Will This Dish Last?

If kept in an airtight container in the fridge, it can keep for three to four days. It can be served cold, at room temperature, or after a little reheating in the microwave.

Where Can I Buy Baby Potatoes?

This product is available at a variety of Western and Asian supermarket stores. They typically arrive in tiny bundles. You can get either regular golden-brown potatoes or potatoes that are multicolored.

What Potatoes Should I Use For Making This Dish?

You can use any kind of potatoes you choose. The best potatoes for this dish are Yukon gold potatoes, but any variety will work. In this recipe, I prefer to use smaller potatoes since they become crispier and can absorb more of the maple syrup coating.

Is It Better To Boil Potatoes Before Frying?

To make the potatoes soft inside, it is essential to parboil them beforehand before pan frying. According to my experience, if the potatoes are not boiled first, the insides will not be properly cooked but the outside will be crispy. Unless you’re chopping the potatoes particularly thin (which makes them crispy), it’s best to boil them first.

Can I Make The Potatoes Ahead Of Time?

They are, in my opinion, at their best when eaten right after cooking. You can prepare them up to two hours in advance and reheat them right before serving if that is more convenient. As an alternative, you may prepare the potatoes and garlic separately a day in advance and then combine and mix them with other ingredients when you’re ready to eat.

What Kind Of Maple Syrup Should I Use?

The recipe calls for maple syrup, so use whatever kind you choose, just make sure it’s 100% pure maple syrup. Those store products that are simply flavored corn syrup mixtures are not recommended here.
