I love the flavor of coconut sugar ever since I first tasted it, it reminds me of caramel. I decided to prepare Pineapple Caramel Sauce by adding pineapple juice to it and it turned out fantastic. You can also check out my Vegan Pumpkin Caramel Sauce.

Vegan Pineapple Caramel Sauce

This healthy homemade version of caramel sauce gives you so much control over the ingredients you put in the recipe. I love the fact that it also has a fruity flavor. Making your sauce is super easy, there are not many steps to making it at all.

Drizzle your pineapple caramel sauce over ice cream, cakes, puddings, pancakes, muffins, parfaits, or over your favorite desserts. You can add the optional vegan butter and salt or leave them out based on your meal plans.

What is Coconut Sugar?

Coconut sugar is a natural sugar alternative, the sugar is derived from the sap of the coconut palm tree. The flower of the coconut tree is cut and the liquid sap is collected. The sap is then placed under heat until all the liquid is evaporated leaving a brown and granulated.

Coconut sugar is not empty calories like white sugar, it does contain some of the nutrients from the coconut palm.

It contains antioxidants, iron, magnesium, calcium, zinc, potassium. Keep in mind that these nutrients are not enough to replace real food.

Vegan Pineapple Caramel Sauce Ingredients

  • Pineapple Juice – I used fresh pineapple juice, you can use any unsweetened pineapple juice.
  • Coconut Sugar – Coconut sugar has a natural caramel flavor, you can purchase it from the health food store or online.
  • Vegan Butter – I made the recipe first with only the pineapple juice and coconut sugar and it tasted great. I decided to add the vegan butter as an optional ingredient for the extra touch but it is not necessary.
  • Salt – also an ingredient that is not necessary but will make the flavor of your sauce pop.

How To Make Vegan Pineapple Caramel Sauce Ingredients?

  1. Add pineapple juice, coconut sugar, vegan butter, and salt to a small saucepan over medium-high heat.
  2. Bring caramel sauce to a boil, stirring constantly.
  3. Reduce the sauce to simmer stirring for about 5 minutes.
  4. Remove from heat and allow to cool. Store in a container with a tight-fitting lid and store in the refrigerator.

Chef’s Tips:

The sauce will continue to thicken as it cools. It will even thicken more after you put it in the refrigerator.
