Avocado mousse is a quick and easy take on the classic French chocolate mousse recipe. It is fluffy and creamy and tastes amazing with healthy avocado, lime, and maple syrup. It will definitely be a hit at your next event.
I had visitors last weekend and they wanted me to fix a dessert that was easy to make because they were about to leave.
So, I made my Carob Mousse recipe and placed it in a gluten-free vegan pie crust, and voila! Dessert was ready! It was a huge hit and they all couldn’t believe how simple it was to prepare. Avocado Mousse

“I decided to make an avocado lime mousse and it was delicious. My son has been having allergies for the past four days, so he hasn’t been able to spend much time outdoors. Today, he feels way better so we decided to go by the lake on the property and play with his puppy, Macho.
He wanted to eat his avocado lime mousse while outdoors. I use this opportunity to teach Daevyd some of the foods that are toxic for his dog since he kept asking me what else is bad for his puppy.”
This post was first in loving memory of our dog, Macho, who was killed a year ago. I also added some photos of our two current dogs, Zwieg and Kane. You can also see my son’s growth! Seeing these pictures brought back such pleasant memories.
What Is A Mousse?
A mousse is a French recipe that ranges from light, soft and fluffy. It is traditionally prepared by adding whipped cream, gelatin, or whipped egg whites to achieve an incredibly light and airy texture.

What Is Coconut Cream?
Coconut cream is the result of reducing coconut milk to a thicker consistency. Coconut flesh is high in fat so it results in a creamy and rich liquid, perfect for replacing cream in recipes.
Because of how coconut thickens when cold, it also makes it the perfect base for vegan no-bake cheesecakes. You can find coconut cream at most grocery stores in the US and also online here.
What’s The Difference Between Coconut Milk and Coconut Cream?
Coconut cream is much thicker and richer than coconut milk is. It’s made in a very similar way, however!
The difference is that in the recipe for coconut cream, much more coconut is used, relative to water. Typically, four parts of shredded coconut are simmered in one part of water. This results in a much thicker, richer, and more concentrated liquid, which can be used to add an intense coconut flavor to a dish.
Interestingly, coconut cream is also used in many Southeast Asian curries and soups, as it can lend a similar, but not identical, flavor to coconut milk. Coconut Cream Nutrition
Coconut cream is made from the inner meat of mature coconuts. It is a delicious heavy cream substitute that is used traditionally in many cultures, especially in the Caribbean, Asia, and South America.
Coconut cream has quite a high but healthy fat content, making it perfect for adding to spicy dishes to mellow the flavor and as a base for desserts. Coconut cream is also full of various minerals and vitamins, antioxidants, and even some fiber and protein.
Note that people with allergies to tree nuts can consume coconut because botanically coconut is not a nut, it is a fruit. However, the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) has classified it as a nut. Can Dogs Eat Avocado?
While your leftover Chipotle bowl may seem just fine for your pup if you got guacamole then it’s best they don’t get a taste.
Avocados, especially the leaves, skin, and pits, have a compound called persin. Most animals cannot ingest persin, and while dogs can handle a little more than most other species, it should still be avoided.
Avocado flesh also contains a smaller amount of persin, and is highly concentrated in fat. While it shouldn’t make them fatally ill, both persin and concentrated fat should be avoided so that your dog doesn’t experience gastrointestinal upset, such as vomiting and diarrhea.
Avocado, Fruit, or Vegetable?
Avocado is grown on trees, making it a fruit! Even though we commonly associate it with savory dishes, that comes from the cultural influences of our southern neighbors in Mexico.
In other countries, for example in Indonesia and the Philippines, avocadoes are found in milkshakes and ice cream. With its high-fat content and creaminess, vegans have discovered its usefulness in desserts and it is slowly becoming more commonly found in sweet recipes as well as savory.

How To Pick An Avocado?
Having a ripe avocado is the most important part of any dish where avocado is the main event. Unripe avocados are technically ok but have a weird flavor, in my opinion. They are also watery when blended or mashed.
On the contrary, ripe avocados have a mellowly sweet flavor. They are also creamy and turn into a decadent mousse beautifully.
When choosing, pay attention to the appearance of the avocado fruit. Since avocados ripen very slowly, when buying an avocado that you do not plan to eat right away, choose the fruit that is hard and heavy, it will ripen at room temperature within two days.
The peel should be intact, clean, without any spots or cracks. The presence of dark spots is a clear sign of overripe avocados. The ripe fruit from pressing with a finger should be slightly pressed, i.e. be soft but not loose.

- Avocado
- Coconut cream
- Maple syrup
- Banana
- Lime juice
- Lime zest
- Vanilla
- Pinch of sea salt
How To Make Vegan Mousse?
- Cut avocado lengthwise, and separate the two halves. Remove and discard the avocado pit. Scoop out the flesh with a spoon, and transfer it to a food processor, or a bowl if you are using an immersion blender.
- Add coconut cream, maple syrup, and banana, and process until smooth.
- Add lime juice, lime zest, vanilla, and sea salt, and continue to process until fully combined.
- Transfer the mousse to a bowl, and refrigerate until chilled, then serve.

Avocado mousse is sweet, it is eaten as a dessert, like a pudding.
Avocado crema is a thick dip that is added to tacos, it is savory. Add extra water and thin to make it thinner and use it over your salads as a salad dressing.
Avocado milk is liquid plant-based milk that is used in place of cow’s milk.
They are 3 totally different recipes that are only similar in that they are all made with avocado but texture and uses are very different. I hope this helps.
