Vegan Tostada Recipe

I love eating Vegan Tostada Recipe for that crunchy bite and delicious toppings. They are the perfect buffet lunch or dinner because everyone gets to build their own tostada.

What Is Tostada?

The word tostada is a Spanish word meaning toast, it is a fried tortilla that is traditionally topped with Refried Beans, meat, Salsa, Sour Cream, and vegetables. Basically, anything that goes into a taco, can be used to top a tostada.

Are Tostadas Healthy?

These tostadas are a healthy version of traditional tostadas, because the shell is homemade, baked not fried, and they are also vegan and gluten-free. The toppings are homemade and healthy as well.

How To Make Tostada Shells?

It is so easy to make your own homemade tostada shells by baking tortillas in the oven or frying them. I prefer to bake mine, for obvious reasons.  To make baked tostada shells, preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit, brush tortillas with oil and sprinkle with salt. Place tortillas on a baking sheet and bake for 10 minutes, turning halfway, until tortillas are lightly brown and crispy.

Remove from oven and allow to cool. Now they are ready to add your favorite tostada toppings, or for you to store them in a ziplock bag or airtight container for 3 days.

How To Make Vegan Tostadas?

  1. Prepare tostada shell, or use storebought.
  2. Prepare the Soy Curls by soaking in warm water for 10 minutes. Squeeze out excess liquid, and add Bragg’s Liquid Aminos, cumin, onion powder, garlic powder, oregano, yeast flakes, cayenne, and salt.
  3. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high, add seasoned soy curls and cook until they become brown on the edges and slightly crispy. Set aside.
  4. Heat refried beans in a saucepan on medium heat, stirring until warm, or for about 4 minutes.
  5. Spread refried beans over tostada shells evenly. The refried beans act as a glue for the other toppings to stick to.
  6. Top with soy curls, lettuce, avocado, tomato, red onion, and jalapeño, and drizzle with vegan sour cream. Garnish with cilantro and lime.

I made these tonight! I didn’t have refried beans so I just blended some canned pinto beans. I also mixed the avocado with some salsa and lemon juice. The corn tortillas came out great in the oven! Instead of soy curls I used vegan chorizo crumbles. I only had white onion so I just mixed that with my avocado mixture. The sour cream recipe on this website was a lovely touch. I really enjoyed this. Looking forward to eating leftovers all week.

This looks delicious! I tried once to bake tortillas, but I wasn’t happy how they turn out. I need to follow your advice and brush them with oil. We love tostadas!
