Yesterday, I had an interview about eating a plant-based diet for longevity. We discussed the fact that as a food blogger I sometimes make recipes with the title of meat dishes.

I grew up eating meat, so the taste and texture are familiar, they are surrounded with lovely memories.  I enjoyed eating meat but I no longer have a desire but I do remember the familiar taste.  Eating actual meat is not my longing,  but I miss the flavors of the seasonings.

Also, it is easier for a Jamaican who decides to transition to a plant-based diet to find my recipes when they type in Google search Vegan Saltfish Rundown, more than likely they would never search for the heart of palm rundown.

For those who are transitioning to a vegan diet and lifestyle, many find it easier to transition with this kind of recipe.

What Are Hearts Of Palm?

Heart of palm is a vegetable that is harvested from the core of a variety of palm trees in Central and South America. It is low in calories, fat, and cholesterol-free. When harvested from the palm tree, the core is cut into cylinders or rings. this is why when the hearts palm is chopped it can easily have layers similar to the flakes of fish.

Hearts of palm do have a delicate flavor so they easily absorb the seasonings that are added.

I just made this for lunch and I’m eating it right now. This is delicious, I love the way it’s seasoned. Thank you for a lovely recipe!

  3. I love your recipes, however, I am concerned about using too much coconut milk because of the high calories. Any comments?

    1. Thank you, Gail, you can substitute with vegetable broth if you like or eat 2 meals instead of 3 to cut back on calories whenever you want to enjoy traditional Jamaican flavors. Also, I agree that coconut milk has calories but remember that one minute they say its good then the next it is bad, coconut milk is cholesterol-free and contains medium-chain fatty acids. Studies show that medium-chain fatty acids reduce levels of cholesterol and other fats in the blood called triglycerides
