Words Of Encouragement To A Friend Feeling Down: To My Beloved Friend…

Hey dear friend. This sounds like a phone call and it’s not far-fetched. Well, maybe it is. But this is my letter to you.

I’m reaching out to you because I know you’ve been going through a rough patch lately. You’ve experienced tiredness, gloom, and weakness. You’ve been feeling disappointed by recent events that have come to test you and steal your peace.

I feel your hurt and that’s why I have to be here for you in this trying time because that’s what friends do.

You’re my beloved friend and I never want to see you go through this kind of suffering. I thank God for His kindness which always gives us support in our darkest times.

I know there’s not much I can say at this time in my own words. Phew! I’m not even a great speaker or motivator. But I know the word of God has the power to go beyond what I can say, and cause a positive spiritual reaction in your heart. So, I’ll speak the word of God to you instead.

My hope is that these words get you back on your feet because that’s the best position for you.

God is Greater Than This Setback

I know life can conjure surprises whenever it wishes to, but also know you have something or rather someone greater than life and its vicissitudes.

You have a greater power in you – the Creator of life itself living right within you.

I’m not trying to be insensitive to this unpleasant predicament but I beg you to gather some strength and try to look within. Try to look beyond the feeling of gloom you’re hooked on right now, and see the greater One who lives inside of you.

From the bible, I encourage you and remind you that just as it’s said in 1 John 4:4, the person of the Holy Spirit living in you is far stronger and bigger than the pain challenging you.

Remember the Holy Spirit is not only powerful but also a friend and a comforter. That’s what Jesus chiefly called Him, “The Comforter”. That’s what He’s here for – to comfort you and me in times like these.

Satan is At Work

I know you’re not in the dark concerning the strategies the devil will use against believers like you and me as we continue to follow Christ. Pain is one of those attempts to get us down and out.

The goal of this affliction and pain brought against you is to bring you to a point of depression and breakdown. Satan wants to get you cornered into a place where you get mad at God for your situation.

The devil is cunning but I know you already know that and that’s why we’ll conquer this situation together.

You’ve Gone Past This Already

Thank God for the strength He’s given you, my friend. I know this will make my work easier as I remind you of how much God has made available for your peace and joy.

When we go through times like these, we need that person who’ll help us get through by reminding us of what we know about God’s grace. Pain can make us forget, and that’s why God is patient with us as we go through turbulence.

Now, you can’t let anything steal your joy and peace. You can’t let this bad situation steal joy and peace from you.

More than a Conqueror

I remember Paul writing to the Roman church saying, No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.” That’s found in Romans 8:38.

It was a statement of reassurance, that although we face diverse temptations and tribulations sponsored by the devil, we can never be confused about what or who we are. We’re loved by God who gives us victory always!

You’re a conqueror. Do you know what that means? No, you’re more than a conqueror to be more precise. I don’t know how to effectively communicate what is more than a conqueror means. I mean, it definitely supersedes being a conqueror.

When people go to war and fight an enemy, it doesn’t matter if they get injured or lose something in the process. The news everybody awaits is the announcement of the winner.

This winner has conquered the opposition, and rejoicing is what’s left. But to be more than a conqueror means the battle was a walk-over. It’s more like you just sat somewhere and the victory was given to you after another fought for you.

That’s really the definition of being more than a conqueror, my friend. And that’s who you are. Because Christ already fought out this battle for you and gave you the championship title without your efforts.

That’s who you are. You own the title of “victor”. Don’t let anything tell you otherwise. No, don’t let no condition try to get you down. You’re more than a conqueror. You’ve got this already. You’ve already won!

You Have God’s Comfort

There’s nothing more than the provision God already made for you. Look what it says in 2 Corinthians 1:3-4;

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.”

God is comforting you right now. Can you imagine that for a second? I’ll tell you one of the ways this comfort comes.

Do you hear a voice on the inside of you telling you, “It’s okay”? Do you hear Him telling you, “It’s not as bad as you think”? Do you hear Him telling you, “You’re loved”?

That’s God speaking to you. If you can’t hear those peaceful whispers, you must clear your mind of all the distractions.

While I stand with you, God is working beyond what you see. He’s full of mercy. He knows how hurt you are, and He won’t pretend not to see you.

God can comfort you by bringing something nicely distracting your way. I’ve had times like that where I was delivered through my favorite gospel music or something else that was able to speak to my spirit.

You may have something else that works for you. Please, let it get to you. God moves through many things we may not even realize. This is all part of His effort to comfort us.

At a point in time, Paul said he was comforted by the news of the growth of the believers. At another time, he was comforted by their show of love and material support towards him and the other brethren.

God uses a variety of things to comfort His beloved children. But you have to open your eyes to see what God is using to help you out, my friend.

God Wants You Up!

God will not let you stay down for long because He knows how detrimental its effects can be.

The Scripture rightly reveals this when it says in Proverbs 15:13, A glad heart makes a cheerful face, but by sorrow of the heart the spirit is crushed.”

And also, says in Proverbs 17:22, “A joyful heart is a good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.”

Please, don’t let your spirit be crushed. “Who can bear a broken spirit?”, as it says in Proverbs 18:14, A man’s spirit will endure sickness, but a crushed spirit who can bear?”

Please, you must snap out of this sorrowful mode as it’s not God’s plan for you. I know how difficult it is to do this but again I know God already gave you the power to break out of it.

Choose to Come Out

You have the power to choose what you want to govern your life. You can choose the spirit of joy or that of gloominess.

God is doing something I need to tell you about. It says in Isaiah 61:3,

“to grant to those who mourn in Zion… the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the garment of praise instead of a faint spirit; that they may be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he may be glorified.”

Look what God is giving you – an oil of gladness to substitute for your downcast state of mind. He’s giving the garment of praise to displace the faintness of spirit you feel – all so that you may stand strong and righteous before your God. That He may be glorified through your life again.

What does this say? That mourning, a downcast spirit, gloom, sorrow, regret, pain, the faintness of heart and spirit, depression, distress, and other bad elements such as these can in no way glorify God.

As such, God has made a replacement strategy for you that you come out of that evil condition and live your best life.

Take It All Back!

God is pouring joy and peace into your heart, my friend. I know the last measure has been used up but there’s more coming from the storehouse of heaven.

God’s joy cannot be exhausted. As much as He needs to let into your life is what you’re going to receive. Nothing short!

But you must also show yourself willing my dear friend. You must arise before you can shine. Your glory has come but you also need to take that step of willingness.

You need to agree to break out and take your life back!

That devil who comes to steal, kill and destroy needs to be rebuked and shown the way out right now.

I beg you to get out of that feeling of weakness and gloom. This may not be a good time but I think it’s really a good time to let you know how scheming and cunning these spirits can be. They can latch onto an open door of sadness like this and do more harm.

But this will never happen to you because you’re getting out right now!

Whatever pain and hurt you’re harboring in your heart has to go right now. Speak to that hurt in the name of Jesus and be healed of it.

You’re Not A Failure

Speak to that condition that’s threatening you with thoughts of failure. You’re not a failure. You’re not good-for-nothing. All these are voices of the devil trying to throw you off your balance, and he has failed already.

Don’t feel disappointed over what you did wrong. You may feel remorse, of course. But once you’ve had a sincere moment of remorse, get up on your feet again quickly. Never stay down too long!

It’s easier to knock a man down when he’s halfway down than when he’s standing tall in full strength.

You must appreciate that life can really be a roller-coaster – sometimes you’re up and other times down. The idea is to make good use of every situation.

In James 5:13, he says, “Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praise.”

Both situations are to be expected as we go through life. But we must apply the appropriate strategies when they come.

Please pray my dear friend because you’re not ordinary. Talk to your God, Father, and friend who cares about every single thing concerning you.

He has a solution for you in this time of suffering. Speak to Him and just bare your heart before Him. He listens.

Just as Jesus prayed when His heart was heavy with the pain of the tribulation He was about to go through, so must you in this period of trial. You must pray that God may lift you from the dunghill unto a high place.

Pray For Strength

You must pray that your strength is increased and you’re able to come out holding your victory up and proud.

You must pray that God shows you all you need to do. That He shows you where to go and what to do for your help in this time. I tell you, God’s help is not limited.

“There’s no mountain He won’t climb up, no wall He won’t kick down coming after you”. Those are the lyrics of a popular song that hold true.

His overwhelming love jealously guards you.

I’ll tell you a bit about that jealousy. It’s the drive-in of God to make sure nothing else gives you that solution except He orchestrates it.

Do you understand? It’s like a jealous husband who wants to be the only provider for his wife. He’ll go to lengths to make sure he attends to her needs to prove his love for her.

My friend, this and so much more is what God wants to do for you today and forever. He wants to be the one and only help you have. And He’s already done it for you.

God has made peace, joy, and laughter available for you already.

I love you as a friend but the love of God towards you is far more than we all can imagine.

If I can go this length to see you smile again, think what lengths God will go to make you happy.

You have a loving Father. Cast your cares on Him, for He cares!
