BBQ Jackfruit Sandwiches
This is my first father’s day without my dad, who passed away February of this year, so I cling to the beautiful memories of my dad. He was a great provider who made sure food was always on the table, and he was a father and provider to many who weren’t his biological children. My dad was such a kind man.
Growing up in Jamaica, my dad would always bring jackfruit home for us. We enjoyed eating the ripe fruit and never had it green. It was later on when I found green jackfruit in Indian supermarkets and decided to make Jackfruit Curry. It turned out amazingly and I have been enjoying it ever since.
I love to also prepare BBQ jackfruit, because jackfruit makes such a great carrier for its bold flavors. The texture of jackfruit is meaty, so it’s ideal to make BBQ pulled jackfruit.
Where To Buy Jackfruit?
Make sure to use young green jackfruit in this recipe, since it has a bland flavor and a meaty texture. The sweet jackfruit is softer and too sweet for my liking in savoury recipes, I prefer to eat it raw or prepared as a dessert. You can purchase fresh green jackfruit in Asian supermarkets, and if you do decide to go with the fresh green jackfruit then you can learn how to prepare it here. You might need to cook for longer when preparing from fresh jackfruit, add extra vegetable broth, and cook until tender.
I always prepare my barbecue jackfruit using canned green jackfruit. It is sold in Asian supermarkets, health food stores, and Trader Joe’s.

Hi, Michelle. For the BBQ Jackfruit recipe is liquid smoke a good substitute for Bragg’s Liquid Aminos?
KB, soy sauce or Tamari are the best substitute for Bragg’s but in this recipe the liquid smoke would definitely work.Just season with salt to taste.
