Ginger Turmeric Shot

This Ginger Turmeric Shot is the best, it tastes amazing and it is so easy to make at home with only 3 ingredients.

Honestly, I love a good wellness shot. I’ve been making similar drinks before they were trending, but having them now be popularly found in stores has also been convenient. The problem is that to truly see the benefits of this turmeric shot recipe, and other similar products, you need to be drinking them regularly.

Unfortunately, the high prices of wellness shots usually mean that you will only drink them once in a while. These Ginger Turmeric energy shots recipe is perfect if you want to reap long-term benefits and support from immunity shots, boosting your immune system to fight off colds and the flu.

I use pineapple as a base for this ginger shot recipe since the other two main ingredients have quite strong flavors. Ginger and turmeric are two amazing ingredients that benefit your body in an abundance of ways.

You can also add a whole host of other fruits for a variety of different flavors, such as oranges or orange juice, limes, lemons, mango, strawberries, blueberries, and kiwis. The possibilities for your ginger turmeric shots are limitless!

Ginger Shot Benefits

Ginger is an integral part of so many cultures. It has been traditionally used as a remedy for many ailments by our mothers, grandmothers, and all the way up the family tree. Most of us knew that when we had a cold, sore throat, nausea, or stomachache, we would be told to drink, energy shots, ginger ale, or turmeric ginger tea.

Research is now showing how and why ginger is such a great versatile remedy. It has a compound called gingerol, which is the oil that gives ginger its flavor and smell. Ginger is effective for nausea caused by everything from motion to morning sickness and also can help with indigestion.

The compound gingerol, and other compounds in ginger, have lots of antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties that are helpful for building up your immune system. Calming down inflammation helps to keep you healthy, which means that your body is stronger to fight against foreign bacteria and viruses. The antioxidants contained in ginger also help to fight off viruses.

There is also a possibility that ginger has a positive effect on those with diabetes and high blood pressing, helping them to lower blood sugar. Since there hasn’t been much research done on this subject, proceed with caution and use it as a supplement, not as a replacement, and as always please discuss it with your doctor.

Along with its digestion, anti-nausea, and immunity benefits, ginger also may help with osteoarthritis, and weight loss, reducing the risk for certain cancers, and reducing the risk for heart disease. Read more about ginger and its benefits here.

Tumeric and Black Pepper Benefits

Turmeric contains a compound called curcumin which has many amazing anti-inflammatory properties. It is recommended that if you are using turmeric for its benefits, you also use black pepper. This is because black pepper contains a compound called piperine, which increases the absorption of curcumin by up to 2000%, while also having its own benefits.

Both compounds have anti-inflammatory properties, making them the perfect pair. Curcumin and piperine, through reducing inflammation, help the body fight off disease and helps to reduce chronic pain. They also both seem to have a positive effect on nausea and digestion.

What Does Turmeric Taste Like?

Turmeric adds a beautifully vibrant natural color to any foods you choose, such as Curry Powder and Golden Milk Turmeric Tea. However, turmeric does have a strong flavor. It is spicy, similar to ginger, which is from the same family as turmeric but also has bitterness, earthiness, and depth. This makes it perfect for savory dishes and to add to spice mixes.

Turmeric working as such a good food coloring can be a bad thing, staining your hands, cutting boards, counters, clothes, and anything else it touches. Wood is especially susceptible and will permanently stain. As someone who uses turmeric and makes curries all the time, I’ve given up on certain wooden items such as a cutting board and a stirring spoon. They’ve just become my designated turmeric cutting board and curry stirring spoon!

Is Turmeric A Blood Thinner?

Turmeric does seem to have blood-thinning properties, so if you have problems clotting or are on blood thinners you will want to avoid turmeric, or at least contact your doctor and double-check if you will be okay. On the other hand, if you are having problems with heart disease and clogged arteries, turmeric may be useful in helping you to stay healthy and avoid medication, again if you speak with your doctor.

How To Pronounce Tumeric?

I have always pronounced turmeric as too-mur-ik, and evidently, this is technically correct, but there is a different way to pronounce it as well. I’m not sure if anyone else in the US will know what I mean, however, I know my fellow Caribbeans will relate. The first R can be pronounced, who would have thought?!? Therefore, ter-mur-ik is also correct!

How To Make Ginger Shots?

Juicer Instructions:

I’m using the Green Star Elite Masticating Juicer, which is so quiet and gets all the juice out. It also doesn’t heat the juice up destroying the enzymes as those centrifugal juicers do.

  1. Scrub your pineapple, and cut off the top leaves. Peel pineapple, and cut it into strips that are able to fit into the mouth of your juicer.
  2. Scrub ginger and turmeric and cut them into pieces that are able to fit into your juicer. (Turmeric should be handled carefully because it might leave turmeric stains. Consider wearing gloves when handling the spice to prevent finger stains. In order to avoid stains, it’s also preferable to avoid using a white cutting board).
  3. Push the pineapple, ginger, and turmeric through the mouth of the juicer.
  4. Add a pinch of black pepper and stir.
  5. To serve, pour 1/4 cup of the turmeric shot into glasses. Enjoy!
  6. Variation, add 1 teaspoon of extra-virgin olive oil for faster absorption.

Blender Instructions:

  1. Scrub and peel pineapple, fresh ginger, and fresh turmeric.
  2. Chop them into small chunks.
  3. Add pineapple first high speed blender, I like to use a High-Speed Blender, process the pineapple, then add the ginger and turmeric and blend.
  4. If you are using a regular blender, add a little water to get things blending smoothly.
  5. Strain through a Nut Milk Bag or a fine-mesh strainer.
  6. To serve, pour 1/4 cup of the turmeric shot into glasses. Enjoy!
  7. Variation, add lemon for lemon ginger turmeric shot.

How To Store Your Ginger Turmeric Shot?

I like to store my juice in a glass container for about 24 hours to enjoy all the benefits. I like to make sure the container is sealed and the juice is filled to the top. So I make sure I have different sizes of Glass Jars
What To Do With Leftover Pulp?

What To Do With Juicer Pulp?

  1. Mix it with baked goods, like my Pineapple Bread.
  2. Add to energy bars.
  3. Add to fruit smoothies.
  4. Compost.

How To Store Ginger?

When you cut and peel ginger, only peel what you need. If you will be using it later in the day or the next, just leave it out. Trim off the dry end when you’re ready to use it again.

If you won’t be using it for a few days, put it in a plastic ziplock bag or wrap the open end in plastic wrap and refrigerate. You can also honestly leave it unwrapped, however, I find that it dries out fairly quickly in the fridge this way.

Lastly, you can place the root, whole or cut, peeled or unpeeled, in a freezer bag and freeze for as long as you need (within reason, maybe not several years).

As for the shots, the fresher the better, but they will keep for up to five days in the refrigerator.

  1. Can I use a blender for this, but skip the straining step and just drink the pulp too? Also, is it possible to freeze it?

    1. You can use a blender if it gets the job done. if you enjoy the pulp i dont see why not on the skipping the strain so if you want to go for it. but if you just dont have a strainer get an old clean shirt and put it all in the center then squeeze into a bowl. & also yes you can freeze it
