With Jamaica being a tropical country with warm temperatures year-round, you may be shocked to find out that soups are actual an integral part of Jamaican cuisine. Here are a few of my favorite vegan Jamaican soups!
My best Jamaican soups:
Most Jamaican soup recipes feature an assortment of root vegetables, flour dumplings, meat or legumes, and lots of delicious spices. Of course, I have made all of my childhood favorites vegan and gluten free.
Instant Pot Jamaican Stew Peas

This hearty Instant Pot Jamaican Stew Peas recipe is the perfect taste of the Island, with delicious Kidney Peas cooked in coconut milk, thyme, allspice and topped with dumplings.
Pureéd Jamaican Pumpkin Soup

This Jamaican Pumpkin Soup is an adapted version of Jamaican style pumpkin soup without meat. Pumpkin soup was my family’s favorite when growing up. In fact, my mom made it weekly. Enjoy the taste of the Tropics with this delicious and easy to prepare soup! It is vegan and gluten-free.
Red Peas Soup

This hearty Red Peas Soup recipe is so flavorful and comforting and warming. It is perfect for chilly evenings. I make it with red beans, cooked in a flavorful herb infused coconut broth, with potato, carrots, yam, and dumplings.

To make this more accessible for most of my readers, I used spinach. However, if you have access to Jamaican callaloo, use it instead for a more traditional take.

Hi Michelle, which book has the Gungo Peas stew? I just bought the Comfort Soups and Stews, which I thought it was in, but I don’t see it and was really looking forward to making it later. Please let me know. Many thanks!
Hello David, I’m so sorry it doesn’t. I just checked the other cookbook and it’s not there. David, there are over 1000 recipes on here so it’s so hard to choose which ones go in a book. Going to make sure it’s in the next book though.
thank you for this recipe
