Air Fryer Jerk Plantain Chips

Air Fryer Jerk Plantain Chips

Plantains can be eaten ripe and green, for a recipe with ripe plantain try my Baked Plantains recipe. Green plantain is used to prepare jerk plantain chips instead of ripe plantains. I  love jerk flavors and I have quite a few jerk recipes for you to try, Jamaican Jerk Cauliflower, Jerk Tofu and Jamaican Jerk Butternut Squash Fries.

I recently purchased some green plantains to make plantain chips after eating and falling in love with Jerk-Style Plantain Chips. Trader Joe’s jerk plantain chips had the perfect blend of sweet and spicy with the perfect jerk seasoning blend.

We have been so busy here at the campground, with events back to back. I’m so surprised that I have been able to keep up with creating new recipes in the midst of all that’s going around me.

My hubby recently bought me an Air-fryer and I have been slowly creating new recipes that I will be sharing with you. Recently I made Air Fryer Cauliflower Hash Browns and they were awesome, crisp on the outside and moist inside.

We have had over 7000 guests for the past 3 weeks and tomorrow as thousands leave we have another group for the next two weeks This is so exciting and I look forward yearly for these events.  For the last 3 years, I have been blessed to do catered events and cooking classes.

What Are Plantains?

Plantains, related to bananas, are starchier and less sweet, with thicker skins often referred to as cooking bananas. Unlike bananas, people usually cook plantains rather than eat them raw. They are a staple in Jamaica, throughout the Caribbean, Central America, and Africa.

A plantain is ripe when its skin turns yellow and the flesh yields to pressure; unripe or green plantains have green skin and hard flesh.

Plantains are very nutritious, they contain, fiber, Vitamin A, B6, C, folate, magnesium, potassium. Read more here.

Tips For Making Air Fryer Jerk Plantain Chips

  1. Adjust the sugar and pepper according to your taste, I find the sugar is important to balance the bitterness of the allspice. You can even hold the sugar before baking and sprinkle it on the baked chips.
  2. You can make your own homemade Jamaican Jerk Seasoning or purchase store-bought.
