Lately, I have been making no-bake recipes with my pre-baked Graham cracker pie crusts. My Strawberry Cream Pie and Peanut Butter Pie have been a huge hit with my family.

Today, I decided to make a simple almond flour crust, that turned out amazing. It had a delicate sweet crumb crust with a tender buttery crust it was ready in no time, only took me 5 minutes to prepare and 20 minutes to bake.

Difference Between Almond Meal And Almond Flour

Almond flour and almond meal are both made from ground almonds but there is a difference. To make almond flour, the almonds are first blanched and the skins are removed, then the almonds are grounded into flour.

On the other hand, the skins of the almonds are kept intact to make almond meal.  The almonds are then grounded into a meal. The fact that almond meal has the skin results in a coarser flour, with a brown and white speckled look.

The finished almond crust would evidently show the dark brown specks of the almond meal with a coarser texture than almond flour crust. One good thing to note is that almond meal is less expensive than almond flour.

However, I preferred to use almond flour to make my almond crust even though almond flour and the almond meal will both work for your pie crust.

Another note is that the almond flour crust looks similar traditional pie crust with its beige crust and it has a lighter tender texture.

How To Make Almond Meal

Almond meal is easier to make at home than almond flour from scratch, place dry raw almonds in a  food processor and process until crumbly.

How To Make Almond Flour

To make almond flour at home you would have to first blanch the almonds, in order to remove the skin, dry the almonds then process into a high-speed blender.

You can also purchase already blanched raw almonds or slivered almonds to eliminate the process of blanching your almonds.

Made an apple galette with this pie crust. It was a little tricky folding the edges up around the fruit, but working with a wet butter knife it went along really well. I didn’t pre bake it before adding fruit and it was baked in about 20 minutes. Thanks for posting such a delicious recipe!!

Oh my, doesn’t sound pretty, can’t imagine what leather face looks like, lol. I’m happy it tastes good, one solace is that you will add a filling and no one will have to see it.
