These crispy baked tofu fries are so addictive, they are low in calories., high in protein, yet they are crispy on the outside and moist inside. They are perfect to enjoy alone as a substitute for fries, they are delicious served with sauce with homemade Vegan BBQ Sauce, Vegan Tzatziki Sauce, Jerk Sauce, or Load Guacamole.
Tofu Fries Recipe
I made this crispy tofu recipe last week after one of our readers Ann reached out to me on Instagram asked me to share a recipe with tofu fries. I made several versions until I was pleased with this recipe.
I actually love to eat baked tofu fries with a large salad that has organic spring mix, cucumber, tomato, olive, artichoke heart, red onion, avocado, walnut, pumpkin seed with a homemade dressing, check out my salad dressings, Vegan Ranch Dressing, Vegan Thousand Island and Vegan Cilantro Lime Dressing.
Tofu Fries Ingredients
- Superfirm Tofu – I love to use superfirm tofu because you don’t need to press it to remove water if you can’t find superfirm tofu at your local store, then you can press your tofu with weights, like a pot. You can also freeze your tofu first, this will transform the texture of your tofu to become chewier when it is defrosted.
- Olive Oil – tossed with the tofu strips before adding the dry seasonings, you can omit the oil and use a little vegetable broth.
- All-Purpose Flour – I used gluten-free flour, you can even use cornmeal or omit this ingredient if you want more protein and less carbohydrate. Add extra crunch when tofu is baked.
- Nutritional Yeast Flakes – The nutritional yeast flakes are added for its flavor, if you have had fried chicken before becoming vegan then you will understand, yeast flakes give that flavor. It is deactivated yeast that was grown on molasses, it provides B12 supplementation especially for vegans. It is sold in health food stores, major supermarkets and online on Amazon.
- Italian Seasoning – Added for its blend of flavors, you can always substitute with individual herbs, you can use a store-bought version or Homemade Italian Seasoning.
- Onion powder, garlic powder, paprika – added for extra flavor.
- Cayenne Pepper – optional ingredient, added for a flavor punch.
- Salt – I used Himalayan pink salt.

These are so good! I’ve made them multiple times already!
Thank you so much for this recipe. I’m about to try it.
Shirley I hope you enjoy it!
Do you press the tofu?
Sarah it is best to. I don’t need to because I only use super firm tofu from Trader Joes but I should have included pressing it in the instructions. I’m sorry.
I’m going to try this in my Air Fryer !
Kara, great idea. I hope you enjoy!
What temp and how long did you cook it in the AF? I’m looking to do mine that way also.
Shay 375 degrees F for 10-15 minutes depending on your AF

Jazmine, I’m so happy you are here, hope you enjoy!
Can you successfully meal prep these, or would they not be good after being in the fridge than microwaved?
Yes, you can, cool them and store them in a container with a tight-fitting lid. To reheat, I would place on a baking sheet and warm in a preheated oven at 350 for 15-20 minutes, to crisp it up again.
